While test driving my GT I noticed an odor like something burning. I'm sure all new cars have this, but what exactly is it? Anyone know? No, I did not do a burn out and the temp. gauge was normal.

OH, and I noticed that the Shaker 500 stinks. The standard low wattage stereo in my plymouth breeze sounds much, much, much better. No kidding.

It is usually the exhaust. If you ever upgrade it to an aftermarket catback you would get it once again.

They spray this crap on the cars as they leave the factory....its washed off at the dealerships...however it does get in the vents and around the underneath if I'm not mistaken...and it reaks for a bit...

Someone who works at the factory could probably explain better...

It's called cosmoline. It's a substance which is sprayed on at the factory like Boomer said. It's done to protect the vehicles during transit. It cleans off when dealers wash the car for display/delivery, however, some does remain underneath and when the car heats up from running it burns the remaining residue off. That's what you smell. Completely normal.

I also think the Shaker 500 is a great stereo. It is as good as the 6 speaker Bose system in my 01 Acura CL.

Hmm, I test drove a Mazda 6 today as well and that Bose sounded way, way better than the Shaker.

Do people actually change any settings on the Shaker500 or do they just turn it on and play as is..thinking its crap....

Its actually a pretty darn good factory system for what its worth.
Shaker1K, is overpriced...

But considering all Canadian Mustang GTs have come with upgraded stereo (Mach460/Shaker500) to me..its got my thumbs up.

Because you said your Plymouth Breeze had a better stereo than the Shaker500, which i seriously HIGHLY doubt....

but if you want to transfer that stereo to the stang...MORE power to ya....

Mine is kinda stinky too...My dealer didn't wash her or do anything to her prior to me picking her up. I took all the plastic and stickers off the car once I got her home. I figured the smell would eventually go away.

It took a few days for my clutch to break in too. I had a burnt clutch smell for a bit. And yes, I know how to drive a stick...have been constantly for at least 8 years.

I'm pretty surprised to hear all of the negativity towards the Shaker systems. I test drove a GT with a 500 and it sounded great, and my Shaker1000 in my GT is unbelievably good. Maybe you guys don't have the Shaker set to 'ON' or the settings are messed? I haven't quite figured it out, but no skipping, no bad discs and nothin but good sound coming from mine.

I like my shaker 500, I'm not 18 anymore, and don't need to make my eardrums bleed

I have the shaker 1000 as well and I have to say that I'm quite happy with it.

I'm 39, and it's not about volume. In comparing it to other systems I've heard, I'm not happy with it. If you are, that's fantastic, good.
