I dont know who is paying for your car, but I can only hope your working and buying it for yourself. Cause if its Mom and Dad's money , you aint got a clue how lucky you are, you wont take care of it the way you would if if it comes out of your own pocket. Either way your one lucky guy to have a new car in high school, let alonesuch a cool one as that.

Forget a v8 till your older, that v6 is quick enough for you now and more importantly cheap on gas and most important on insurance!! I cant even imagine how much a v8 would cost you for insurance, if you could even get it. My 19 year old sons insurance costs him a bundle as is with a Toyota. The only sad thing here is that I know your going to get scratches and dings on that car in a high school parking lot, no way in the world you going to avoid that. Just look around at all the beaters the other kids are driving.

What gives
I don't think Nate created this topic to be preached too.
Let the kid enjoy his car.

I'm paying for a good portion of my car, but I'm lucky enough that my dad is helping me out so i can pay for it sooner, and even if i wasn't paying for my car i would baby it. when people see me driving it they automatically assume i am a spoiled brat a-hole. I had to work for my car and i have to take care of it.

eh...high school has changed a lot as far as what kids drive. im in college now...back in high school most of my friends drove their parents bmw's or at least had new integras, celicas and stuff like that.

now i completely agree with what youre saying...ive wanted a mustang since i could drive and finally got one earlier this summer after my first year of college. ive been working since i was 15 and saved as much as i could for my car. i worked 40 hrs a week every week this summer to help pay for it. My parents gave me 1,000 toward the down payment but I make all the payments on the car myself. I also pay over half of the insurance (no small task for a 20 yr old in a Mustang GT) and all of gas.

Anyway, not to go on about myself, but what im saying is that most high school kids arent like me. they dont have to save up for the car they want...their parents buy it for them as soon as theyre old enough to drive. not saying thats the case with stang101...but it is with most.

I admit i cringe when i see high school kids here whos parents bought them a new mustang...but hey...its not their fault. i guess if my parents were willing to drop 20k+ on a new car for me id be ok with it. thats just the way things are going these days.

BUT i can tell you im MUCH prouder of my car because I know that I paid for it. Thats another reason why I take such good care of it...

Nice ride, Nate!

My car in high school was a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere! Not exactly a chick-magnet.

Took me 25 years to get my GT, so you're a very lucky young man!

Well i got my Screaming Yellow V6 When i was 17.. (18 now) and i have to pay for a portion of my car and i baby it like no ones business. Everyone at my school always ask me how many times i wash my cars its always clean which is EXTREMELY rare for highschool kids cars... I wash and wax it every weekend nd a little washing in between.. also detail the the interior. I love my car and will never get rid of it either. Ive done mods to it as well and i gaurantee that people think im a spoiled kid of some sort but i pay for part of my car and i hve payed for all the mods out of my own pocket... Mods are: Tinted 20% , 18 X 9 Deep Dish black bullits with 255's in front and 285's in back.. BFGoodrich KDW's... GT front bumper, GT rear bumper and exhaust. Incase you were thinking.. no i dont not sport a GT badge anywhere i have my respect for the GT's and one day will own one when i can afford it but for now im smittin with my 6. I know it dosnt sound like a whole lot but its all expensive as im sure you all know. One of these days ill finally take a picture of it. All in all its my baby.

The v6 isn't much better on gas mileage

Quite not so good in reality.
Especially if you drive one like I do mine.

wow, thats tough to believe. not calling you a liar...but i just cant believe that you would pay the same for insurance for a mustang gt and a honda accord. im 20 with a perfect record, tons of discounts (good student, low risk, all that) and i still pay like $3,300 a year.

My first car was a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquee in what has to be the ugliest blue I have ever seen I just call it grandma blue. I too wanted a Mustang ever since I could drive, but my parents would not let me get one. They said I was too young for a car like that even if I was paying for it, At the time (17) I was pissed. Though I ride through my old high school to drop my younger brother off and someone there has a 2005 redfire and it is FILTHY! Though that has nothing to do with age. I think it all depends on the values you have. If you know the value of things and appreciate them you always take care of them reguardless of if they were given to you or you got it your self. Though I can tell you now you will feel a great sense of pride when you know what you have was paid for by you. Nice car, enjoy it in good health!

Good lord, every time a teenager comes on and says he has a Mustang, someone starts up with this crap. Seriously, what does it matter? Raise you kids how you see fit and let his parents raise him as they see fit. I mean absolutely no offense by what I'm saying either. No one wants opinions shoved down their throat about who is worthy to drive or own a particular car. Did I have a new car at 17? NO Do I begrudge this kid because he does? NOOOOOO. God help us all if he had a GT, there would be calls for a congressional hearing on the matter. Take your preaching to church and let the kid be proud of his car.

BTW- Nice car Nate!
