If the F150 wasn,t so heavly discouted to keep it no1 you wouldn,t get much of a truck for 33,000.00. The Bullit is a special car, it would be like buying a Harley truck berore rebate their in the 40,000.00the last Lighting was close to 31,000.00 in04? Imo Their both great it's just what you decide to drive??

Msrp for an F-150 Fx4 with no options is $30,820. Msrp for a Mustang GT Premium with no options is $27,765. So the Mustang does not cost the same or more.
The Bullitt is a special edition vehicle, not comparable.

I own a Mustang GT, An Explorer XLT and sometimes drive the hubbys GMC Sonoma Highrider Pickup....
The Mustang is the best car I have ever driven --- period! It just puts a smile on your face just looking at it sitting still.........
And I probably would have paid more for mine.. and I paid 28K --cash.

Apples and oranges.
You're electing to buy a LE Mustang which comes at an additional cost. However an '08 Mustang GT Premium w/ no options MSRPs at $25,585 w/ incentives in my area. A comparable Ford F 150 is the XLT for $23,350. To get it to the level of the GT you must add the following: 4.6 engine ($750), auto tranny - packaged w/ the 4.6 upgrade ($1095), 17 inch aluminum wheels ($100), upgraded stereo ($300), fog lamps ($140), traction control ($190) for a total of $26,885 w/incentives. IDK anything about FX4s but the site wouldn't let me me build one under the base for $33,220.
So for a thousand or so less, you're not driving a truck .

Ford as a company has shown over the decades that it does not have the patience to stick with a product and iteratively improve it in order to compete with something like BMW. BMW and Porsche refine things over successive generations and are fiercely controlled by the people who founded it. American production manufacturing packages things up as stand alone product and if it doesn't swim the first go about, then it gets canned and a new package is dreamed up by marketing. It's really short term decisions vs. long term and long term always wins in the end. Of course BMWs are getting outrageously expensive too... you can barely buy a new, stripped down, 3-series for under 40k.
If an American company does stick with something, eventually they listen to the beancounters and put cost cutting ahead of sales and quality. Selling on cost alone will always be a losing proposition because it doesn't think ahead.
By the same token... I challenge anyone who thinks the Mustang, especially the GT, is too expensive - tell me what competes with it and how much it costs. Truth is all cars are getting too expensive compared to a living wage. But we keep buying 'em, don't we...
