LOL yeah probally in the end it would be cheaper but projects like that you really get to know the car and well once you get into the swap you just cannot leave stock...upgrades, must do upgrades and they add up. Do what you can afford and and can handle.

I think in the end you're going to have a lot less of a headache trading in your V6 for a GT. besides the engine, transmission, driveshaft, and differential/axle assembly (I guess I could have just said drivetrain), the GT has a different K-member, bigger brakes to cope with the extra speed (and the stock 17" wheels are made to clear the bigger calipers), stronger springs/dampers to cope with the extra weight, heavier sway bars, a bigger radiator, and a different wiring harness. The exhaust hangar situation could be different too. I'm sure there's more, but that's the extent of what I know of.
Even if you have a totally aftermarket suspension that wouldn't need swapped (and I'm not sure how different the V6's axle housing is, which would dictate springs, swaybars, etc), you're still talking about opening a big can of worms with the computer, let alone the drive train.
