I will use the flowmaster as an example.

2004 Flowmaster system $596.66
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cgi-bin/...ster/17214.html

I always figured this was due to the fact your getting 30 pounds of stainless steel pipe plus the mufflers plus the profit margin.

Then I see the prices for the axle-bak systems for the 2005 which is basically mufflers only.

2005 Mustang Flowmaster system $435.99
http://flowmastermufflers.com/cgi-bin/flowmaster/17410

Are mufflers really this expensive? Im seeing the same thing from every muffler manufacturer.

Magnaflow system for 04's $595.11
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd...American&id=284

Magnaflow system for 05's $571.64 http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd...American&id=943

It seems like the new systems are grossly overpriced or on the old system you were buying the mufflers and getting all that pipe for cheap.

I would expect the prices to drop proportional to what your getting.

Yup that's about right. I paid $399 for the Magnaflow axle back kits but it was on-sale from $499. It's actually a funny store. I order them from LM Performance and after a week went by and I still didn't recieve them. I called and asked for a tracking #. Well the package was shipped from a place in California that was 5 hours from where I live. Yes 5 hours way and I still didn't get it after a week! The package was lost in Florida somewhere. They were nice enough to ship me another set and I recieved it the next day. Well just for fun I continued to track the first order. It went back and forth across the US at least twice. Originally shipped March 2, and delivered March 25th.

There was a coupon floating around here a few months back that
got you the Magnaflow Catback system for $406 delivered.
(not axelback)
So I called them and bought it!!
Either the regular or Paks were the same price.
Call them. See if they will give it to you for the same price.
I think they guys name was Mike.

yeah...I don't get why the prices are so inflated for these parts. I mean you can buy flowmaster mufflers for $50 a peice for previous model stangs.

They are inflated because they are new. Wait a year or two when the dust clears and the prices will drop.

Agree, the pricing of these systems seems outrageous for 2 mufflers and some tips basically. Must be the "newness" of the systems.

The mufflers by themselves are only $70 a piece. There's no way 2 tips and 2 short pieces of pipe are that expensive. Somebody's making a LOT of money.
