Does anyone know for sure if the current 8.8" ring and pinion gears offered by Ford as well as others such as Motive, will work in the 05 read end ? I would like to order some 4.10 gears next week, but need some feedback first.

I spoke with Ford Racing - they ARE the same. So I have order some 4.10 Motive Gears and install kit.

I have an AUTO so once they are in, I will update everyone on the ride after install.

Does the 2005 require any tuning to accommodate the gear change, or will the computer compensate for it automatically?

From what I know, the computer flash takes care of this. I am having this done this weekend. More info here :

www.sctflash.com

XCalibrator is the product, along wiht Quicktune.

After saturday, I will provide an update this weekend, when the lowering springs, 4.10 gears, dyno and computer re-program area all done.

I just got back from the shop where I had 4.10 installed on my 2005 GT / Auto. It made a huge performance gain as well as off the line performance.

Bryan,

Not that they've been in for awhile, any problems?

I'm thinking about 4.10's in my 05 GT conv, but want to make sure it's a good move before I dive in.

You happy? Any side effects?

Any advice, guidance or comments are greatly appreciated.

What set did you get? Brand? Blace? etc.

Tom

No issues, no whine, no noise at all. I love the 4:10 gears, I think they are a great street gear. I puchased the Motive gears and have been very happy with them. As far as guidance, make sure you get a mechanic who knows how to install gears

when I put 3.73s in my '98, the word was that it would improve the in-town gas milage, but kill the highway milage... it killed it all accross the board, but only because I couldn't keep my foot out of it long enough to do the experiment. I loved it.... and when I get my '06, that's one of my first stops...
