I get a chattering noise(very mild) on start for a second or two.Is this what you are describing???I just thought my exhaust had a loose bolt.Maybe its this.I just noticed it recently(9000 miles now) cause I always have that shaker 1000 on and never noticed it.

This sounds exactly like what Lucie started out doing. It got worse as time went on. Does it also "whine" when you let off the gas? We have only 2300 miles on her.
Might want to get it checked out. I haven't found a TSB on it yet, although somebody posted a link to one earlier in this thread, but it didn't describe what my problem is.

Called Service Dept today to see if Lucie was repaired, was told YES.....so....we drive 45 miles to pick her up and guess what? Somebody told a big fib!! Somehow, the paperwork got "closed out".....meaning it was completed and ready to be picked up. Well, there are parts still on order for her and we'll have to wait till next Tues before we know for sure if the parts are on back order or are delivered and installed. What a bummer!!! :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Ok... I actually had my radio off today and slowed to turn in my street! Let off the gas.. hit brake ... didnt have to stop completely and accelerated slowly as turning left... Heard a weird sounding SHRILL whine from rear end but didn't notice any vibration really. It doesn't sound like what I've haeard in the past when a rear end was going bad on a car... it wasn't like a humming ... it was definitley strange sounding. Does this sound familiar? Gosh I hope this one doesn't have rear end going out... my 2000 was in the shop for 3 weeks with them trying to get the stupid thing right when it went out at 20K miles... and this one only has 4K. :bang: I need to take it in for the popping struts soon so they'll order the parts... so I guess I'll have them check this out to.

Just got Lucie out of shop today......she's been there since Tues of last week!!! But..got BROKEN strut mounts replaced(popping noises when turning wheel), for the vibration noise in the rear.....they replaced ring gear & pinion, pinion bearings and cups, carrier bearings and cups, limited slip clutches (said old(?) ones were grabbing too much), and reinstalled rear end carrier, measured back lash, within specs at .011, filled with fluid and test drove. Service guy said FORD told him that we needed to drive it at least 600 more miles to "break it in more" and we shouldn't have the vibration any more.
The popping is gone, and there is still a little vibration....not as much as before, though. I can live with it.

Ok I'm worried now. I didn't notice this sound until I put on my SLP Loudmouths, but I'm not sure thats what it is now. When I accelarate from a stop I get a vibration that sounds like metal against metal. I also hear it when I'm at slow speeds (ex. when backing into a parking spot). Does this sound like the same problem or do you think that it's just something with my exhaust vibrating?

OK.......rear end still vibrates after shop worked on it.....more noticeable when I have my hand on the e-brake, especially when making left turns from a stop.
Getting new gas tank soon....waiting for parts to come in, then will address the rear end, again.
Also, getting new driver's door handle assembly.......handle won't return completely to flush position after opening from outside.
Only have 2800 miles on car!!!! :nono:

Actually, a little light vibration from the rear might create incentive for someone to actually use the rear seat for a little massage!

Carol get them to check and rotate the rear tires to see if one of the rims are bent or a tire is mis-shaped by belt seperation in the sidewalls .This can have a cause and effect on the rear end of the mustang ,but this alone will give you a shimmie or a shake from the rear end .
It may not have this but if its going back get them to check this as well ,sometimes the smaller things cause the larger problems .
