If all you're doing is driving around town and not on the highway, it'll read a little low. It also may not have been calibrated properly at the factory. My instrument cluster had to be changed out because of an airbag light issue and my new cluster reads a little higher than the faulty one did.

Reset your mpg reading every time you fill up with gas, if that's all you want to know---what was your average MPG for THAT last one tank full of gas.

But if you want to know what you are getting with THE CAR over time, just reset it and forget it.

The message center will continue to track the MPGs and you will know what your average fuel efficiency is on the car since the last time you reset it--over a much broader period of time, in all types of driving conditions.

That may be more useful info to you. The average MPGs per tankful can vary widely---depending upon whether you are driving around the corner a lot, or across the state.

Just a suggestion. Depends upon what info YOU need or want.

Mine didn't start getting decent mileage til it had 1800-2000 miles on it.
The mileage sorta crept up little by little.

My gas mileage has gone up as well, some of the cold days here have hurt it, otherwise it's doing quite well for a sports car.

My MPGs have been working their way up since I got the car a week ago (GT). It started at about 15.3 and now it's at 16.5. I've filled up the car twice this week. Closing in on 500 miles.

I've stayed in the 14's since I got the car. I also do quite a bit of city driving (17L/100km). I have 5200kms on her so I think break-in isn't the problem. Not that heavy a foot either.

I figure I'm just shifting a bit later than I should (when I owned my Probe GT I used to like to keep her around 2.5-3k (where more of the punch was)........with the GT I usually keep it around 2k which might be a bit high for good mpg.

If I do exclusively city driving, same route that would net my Honda civic 21 MPG (it got 40 on the hwy) I get between 12-15mpg. It varies. City stop and go kills your MPG, especially when just about every street here is 40mph and everyones in a huge hurry to get to the next stop light.

Yeah, mines on a premium tune, so I stopped looking at the prices a while ago.

Someone posted awhile back mentioning shifting at no higher than about 2500RPM
if I do that I have no problem getting at least the posted MPG
I've checked it by both the dash guage and when I gas up.

I guess I am fortunate to be averaging about 21 mpg over the life of the car. I have 4700 miles (had my car a little longer than some) and reset the lifetime avg. at each oil change. I am finding large differences in mpg depending on which station I fuel up at. Most of my miles are highway miles, and I am seeing a pretty regular 24-25 mpg on the highway. In town is tough because there are too many people to pick on there ... :tex:

I've had my car since Nov 15 and I have about 1400 miles on it. When I drive to work it is manly stop and go driving, so I get about 14-15 mpg. I filled up my tank on Friday, reset my computer and took a long drive up to Depford and was amazed that when I looked at the MPG when I got home and it was 21 MPG. I spent the whole trip doing 75-80 mph. Didn't think a V-8 would perform that good.

first tank was 19.6 mpg. every tank after that has been as good or better. and if you refill every time, and reset computer every time, the computer is dead on.

Check this out! I took a test drive(guy gave me the keys and said "take it out") so I did. It was a white GT with red leather and AT. It was fast but I didn't burn the tires. Just took off at a light and 60mph came up in a blink. Hit the passing gear doing 50mph and 80mph came up fast. Then I looked down and was shocked to see "9.3 avg mpg" Man that is sorry!!! :notnice: I had a big fast Buick GS that got 14mpg. My Ford F150 gets 15mpg. I never had a car that got that low of milage before. I like the car, good brakes, tight steering but 9.3mpg??? I am starting to have second thoughts now.

Is that in mpg or km/L?

Did you take notice of what it read BEFORE you drove it off the lot? And you are going to base your opinion of the vehicles gas mileage based on what you say on the Message Center? All it takes is for someone to hit the reset button on the Message Center and the calculation starts all over regardless of how much fuel is left in the tank. Think my friend, THINK.
