Is the 5 speed Tremec transmission inherently noisy, or do I have the only one with gear chatter and gear slop/slack? Also a slight whine at highway speeds. From past experience with manuals, this could be normal, but I would expect more refinement in the newer transmissions.

I think that I have the same thing. Its not a really bad sound and all the gearheads that I givin a ride haven't said anything about it.

I don't know how to feel about it, whether its an annoyance or a problem.

Well...if the stock shifter is noisy...then I would NOT get an aftermarket one.

I have a 00 V6 vert with 95k miles. I installed a Steeda Tri-ax shifter back at 60k miles. Let me tell ya, now that is a noisy shifter. Even when I first put it in, but even more so after 35k miles of use.

research other threads on this issue, it is well known that some of the 5 speed manuals are too noisy, and it IS a problem.

My sons' car had a chatter on accel from the transmission since day one. There have been many owners on this forum with the same complaint of transmission noise. I know how to fix our problem... 6-speed. :drive:

I haven't had the whine, but I can here it when it is changing gears. I have thought about dropping the 6 speed in it. But that will be a ways off.
