Ford is known to be conservative. But, due to the Pontiac GTO and Daimler Chrysler having so many vehicles in the 340-425hp range, I expect Ford to produce an SE near the 400hp range. Especially with the Challenger & Camero on the way.

My best guess is that Ford will drop a SC 4.6L in the SE. But, I wouldn't rule out a 5.4L either. I want a 5.4L, and the longer we wait, the chances of us getting one increases. You know, sooner or later, the 5.4L will be in a (non-Shelby) Stang. If you recall, Ford said when they introduced the 2005 proto type, that there would be different engine options in the near future.

And GM has proved you can produce a 400hp car(GTO) for $33k, so I don't want to hear any excuses from Ford.

Nah i dont see Ford using a super charger on the Mach 1.
I think the most HP we'll see from the mach is in the 370/380 range, and i will be more than happy with that as long as the weight stays the same as the GT.

I can totally agree. But i cannot see them using the DOHC4.6L for this but a 5.4 N/A is more logical for those kind of numbers.

Conservative in Horsepower or Engine size? Or both?
I think in the 90's we saw Ford be far too conservative with the power on the Mustang. However after 99 we seemed to had seen a shift in Power on the Mustang to higher numbers, especially in 03 with the Cobras 390 HP. And then come 05StangGT with 300HP and now 475+HP on the SHELBY
I dont see Ford being that conservative anymore with the Mustangs Power ratings. I think those days are over..........................for now.

I'd gladly pay for the 5.4 in an SE. I know I'm not willing to pay the markup for a GT500, and I'd be more able to afford something under 40k. Please, please Ford - bring us the 5.4 in an SE, making 390-425 HP. I can add stuff to it to reach 500 for a little more $$.

I with you guys, i really want a N/A 5.4L. I'm sure whatever they do it's gonna kick some major butt, i just don't want the thing bloating up to 3900lbs+ like the shelby.

I think the new mach is gonna have the 4V 4.6 pushing around 360 HP. As much as i would love to see them throw a N/A 5.4 in it, i dont see it happening.
I think you are wrong there. First, I don't see Ford adding 60 HP to this engine... 25 maybe 30 HP, but not 60 without adding a supercharger. You just can't get 60 HP out of this engine without radically altering its emissions and fuel mileage... Something that you and I don't necessarily mind doing but Ford has to answer to Uncle Sugar and the EPA. And why would they add only 60 HP with a supercharger? That would be a waste of money when they could add a Saleen supercharger that adds 100+ HP at only 4 to 5 lbs of boost? That being said, the 5.4 N/A is a distinct possibility. Think about it for a second... Ford has already put one in a Mustang (ala Cobra R @ 390 HP) that was fully certified for emissions, it is a known quantity when it comes to warranty issues. Not to mention that it has already been fitted to the S197 (ala Shelby) which means most of the issues with putting the engine in the car have been solved and factory parts are currently available for the car. I have to believe that the 5.4 is going to be available for a SE.
But then again who really knows? And more importantly... What can we do to make them talk!

He's talking about going 4 valve DOHC, It could very easily achieve 360hp.

According to Scott Hoag, the former Ford customization manager for the Mach 1, they saw a 2 mph increase and a .2-.3 sec decrease in 1/4 mile performance with the shaker unblocked when testing was being done.

The Mach engine has a nice set of intake cams to fatten up the midrange of the power curve. It's reasonably stout performance.

If a new version of this car ever got made, they would have to work to position it above the '05+ GT. My prediction is a 5.4L 3-valve engine tuned to around 400hp.

Unfortunately, still no word, and I doubt we will see anything for another 18-24 months if something does get made.

The 2000 Cobra R was rated @ 375 HP.

typically they'll use the same DOHC engines, and maybe with luck, bore them out a tad more. Oh and for reference, if you remember when that Cobra R was finally released, they were still blowing engines.
