I agree completely Mark, if the Mach I arrives and isn't a serious performance piece, you and I and a very large number of other people will stage a revolt. I don't anticipate it happening either but I suppose developments like this always give a reason for concern.

What can I say, I'm just an optimist!

pssst.... the mach was a two year deal
i dont mind this whole apperance package thin. its not as if ford is putting tape stripes and fake scoops on ALL mustangs. its OPTIONAL, so if someone wants it, its there. its not gonna be the mainstream thing.
i probably wont get one, but its nice to know its there (plus i love the old GT/CSs so, naturally im excited about this'n)

If Ford believes the way to sell more Mustangs is with smoke and mirrors, scoops and stripes, bells and whistles then they have misunderstood the essence of the Mustang. While I understand those items appeal to a certain group of buyers and Ford will as part of their normal course of business offer those items, the fact remains that if they do not invest in upgrades and enhancements to the core essence of what makes a Mustang a Mustang, they will ultimately suffer failure. Given Ford's current state, they need to focus on the key elements that make the Mustang such a hit, affordable performance not gimmicky appearance packages.

Now that is a bold statement.
Granted, I'm not a fan of tacked on stuff, but, Mustang has almost always been about tacked on, sometimes functional, most times not, scoops, spoilers, louvres, stripes and the like. We may not like them, but, we can't ignore the fact that it has always been a part of Mustang to be "dressed up" a little. Even the recent Mach 1 and Bullitt are appearance packages. How functiional do all of you really think that shaker hood is? These 2 just happen to have a little performance to go with them.
We don't even know what the GT/CS will offer. It may have that lighter weight, better handling theme that so many have been longing for. I doubt it, the original was pretty much just a sticker and scoop package.

Seriously, tacked on stuff sells. Just look at all the stuff at a SEMA Show. Its just about personalizing your car. Why shouldn't Ford capitalize on it too. They have a real nice pony package for the V-6.
Just so they don't forget about the enthusiast who wants more than just fluff, Like a Mach1 or Boss with 400+ HP. There's room in the line up for 4 different models. Like V-6, GT, Boss, Shelby.

Just because something can, has and is done doesn't necessarily mean it ought to be done, even if you can cynically sleaze out a quick buck in the process.
Really, what Ford does to maintain the long-term design honesty and integrity of the Mustang might be very different from what others might spend good money to "personalize"/"butcher" the Stang's styling.
Just as a don't mind a pretty girl draping a silk scarf around her neck as a nice stylistic enhancement, I have a big problem if that girl stuffs her bra with some scarves to create some false impression to the gullible. There is a difference and it goes to the basic design honesty and integrity of the Stang.
Granted, the material impact of something like the CS package is minimal, the symbolic impact and erosion is not.

The mods have already told people not to post the pics if they have them. Apparantely Brad got into some hot water for posting them in the first place.

If anything, they should be thanking Brad for posting and promoting that worthless, overpriced POS.

Holy.... the Mustang is going into its second year.... the darn thing is still new. It turns out that it is selling as well as or better than expected - great news for a company tight on money. Great - Ford finds that the car is a hit and they can expand the line as they move forward.
So what do you do - roll out a looks only/accessory SE to keep things NEW with the car and generate some buzz, while you spend the time TESTING AND R&D-ing the performance special editions like a possible Mach or Bullitt?? Ummm YEAH. If you want the performance ones to come out good enough to keep those special Mustang folks happy, that's what you do. You want them to slap the thing together and get it out the door as fast as possible? You saw how long it took them to get the S197 locked down and set. Personally, I'd rather them take the time and get the new SEs RIGHT.....

I think you're placing WAY too much importance on this package.

Obviously some fads Ford won't do. The point about SEMA is there is a lot of Retro stuff out there that people are buying. Ford sees this. They can pay homage to the GT/CS and have a retro type package of there own. Remember what makes the Mustang so great is the ability to get it your way. There is a first gen joke about there being so many options that no two cars were a like. That is why the Mustang is the only pony car still standing. It offers something for everyone.
Remember, the first gen Mach 1's were pretty much an appearance package. There were no special engines exclusive to the Mach 1. You may think this is a girl who stuffs her bra with some scarves to create some false impression to the gullible but I think the Mach 1 values prove other wise.
GTJOHN, I'm gonna try and get a Shelby in 07 if I can get enough money saved. If not then it will be an SE.

I'm not one of these guys on this site, that sits around and builds a $40k-$45k Mach1 or Boss dream car in his head. Lets get the facts straight people. This is a Mustang that is going to be staged between the Mustang GT and the Shelby in both price & performance. We know what we get in a Mustang GT, and we know what we get in a Shelby. I think its safe to say, that the car will be priced between $29k-$35k and have 350-400hp. I'm guessing more towards 400hp. Who on this site is going to be disappointed with that?

I think the new mach is gonna have the 4V 4.6 pushing around 360 HP. As much as i would love to see them throw a N/A 5.4 in it, i dont see it happening.
