I do not want to burst your bubbles, but your dealers are giving you bad information. I do not want you guys to become un satisfied customers come Job 1 time, and your car isn't built by the time you think it should be.

Once again:

The VINS are assigned by FORD, not the plant, when the order is received by Ford, and are sequential only to that point. Your build data is not at the plant yet, I don't care what your dealers say. Just because you have a VIN with a "0799" number, that does not mean that it will be built in that order. Once Ford sends them to the plant, the plant releases in an order that allows the plant to build efficiently. Therefore, depending on option content, "0070" might be released before "0060" Also, please remember that AAI also builds a Mazda product. Currently, AAI rolls about 400 cars off the line a day. AAI only runs one shift right now, but that will be 2 by job 1. Some days are more than 400 cars, some are less, depending on how each shop is running. Your car may be released for build one day, but it may be a few days before it reaches final assembly, MAYBE more, depending on if there were any quality issues with any welds, or the paint quality was not up to par, or what not. The bare body could get to paint, and be scrapped because of quality and the process would start all over. Or it could go through paint, have some issues, and be scrapped there. To compound this, they all get mixed and shuffled in the paint shop in order to paint more efficiently. To this end, once it reaches final assembly, VIN # 1000 might roll off the line before VIN # 0799. In reality, it's USUALLY not that far apart, but it COULD be. Once it IS released to final assembly, it should be finished within a day or so, unless there are any quality issues. If there are any, they are fixed, and go back through inspection, before they are driven out the door to be shipped.

AAI is like no other Ford plant. To be perfectly honest with you, I don't know how Ford will calculate the "build date" for your vin. So many factors are involved. It's really hard to say for sure. I would say that whatever they do calculate would be fairly accurate, atleast to sometime within that week, but there's always the possibility it could be longer.

Again, I don't want to dissappoint you, and I don't want ya'll to be upset when September rolls around. Ford wants happy customers!!!

It kind of bums me out when I think how factory the car really is, almost like a cookie cutter car every one is stamped and conveniently designed for fast production, but again I understang that fords assembly line made cars cheaper and more availible to the masses. Just wonder if I will ever have a car that was hand made and cared for like a classic hotrod being built from the ground up by the hands of the metal artists and engineers. this way your VIN would be "VIN#000000000000001"
It's pretty automated until final assembly. @ final assembly, most everything is put on by hand. Sometimes with the help of machinery, but most of the time by hand. Mind you, it's still kind of like a cookie cutter operation, but for the most part, it is still hand built during that process.

AAI T&F,

Thanks for the information. It is helpful as we eagerly anticipate the production start-up. A group of Mach 1 and Bullitt owners toured AAI in early April. We were extremely impressed with the cleanliness and the automation in this facility. I hope you guys and gals are as excited to build them as we are to speculate about and eventually get them!

I assume the "T&F" stand for "trim and final assembly", correct?

Yes, T&F stands for Trim and Final.

Yes, we are all very excited about Mustang. We're just about as excitied as you guys are! AAI has been running under it's capacity for many years now, and we're all up to and excited about the challenge(s) that we face with Mustang.

AAI T&F,

If you can tell us, will there be one station (or person) who assigns the VINs like at DAP? Or will there be a different process to do this? Thanks!

VINS are assinged by Ford, before the order is even sent to the plant. There are a few different stations throughout the build process that etch the VIN into various parts of the car. I am not 100% sure of all of those areas though. I do know it's etched into the interior underbody panel though. To specifically answer your question, no, there is no station that assigns VINS at the plant, only stations that etch the pre assigned VIN into the body, or into components, or onto the VIN plate itself.

I'm not sure how other Ford plants do this. It is my understanding that other Ford plants build in sequencial order, throughout the entire process. That's why I said that AAI is like no other Ford plant.

AAI_T&F,
What is the manufacturing capacity per shift, once it's up and running?

My car will be #1ZVFT82H255101647. B)

Are we saying that each shift will build 550 per day? That will give us the 1100 per day with two shifts.

Ok, that means mine will be built on day 2 (Sept. 8 2004) just before the shift change.

That means your car will be built right when the first shift wants to go home.
Do you do your best work right before your day ends??? wouldn't want that one!

LOL...I was thinking the same thing

I wouldnt start worrying about something like time of day yet...for all we know they will only get 200/day out for the first few weeks...there will be tons of problems as there always are when starting any new manufacturing process.

I will take mine after a few months of production...call me paranoid but whatever.

Honestly, I'm not sure what the target is going to be. It is rumored (the rumor is to the extent of how soon) that we will be running 10 hr shifts very soon after job 1, so you can figure about another 100 - 150 cars with two extra hours. But, again, keep in mind, Mazda 6's will be mixed in with Mustangs.

Well, that just stinks. **** (na ah uh :nono: Dan) the Mazda's, we want our Mustangs.

Let's all hope the first cars off the line are black Gt's with dark charcoal leather seats with manual transmission, shaker 500 and the IUP. Just a hope.

Anyone know how long off the line before they start loading them on trucks and trains?
