A Stant is available at Rock Auto for $18+ and the caddy from the original fits on it without any problems.

 

I though sense the early 90's all vehicles have had some form of blocking plate or screen installed so you couldn't siphon out fuel?

 

I posted a link to it in post 16 and the base price is only $11.64 plus shipping. The one linked to E-bay a few posts after is almost three times the price! With that kind of a mark up I can see where the seller would be happy to return one item for another at no charge. He's still way ahead.

I put the Stant on my car special ordered it from Checker and had it in 3 days. As others have mentioned it also works with the factory retainer and have had no issues with it since install almost 20 months ago.

 

I don't know if our stangs have it but my '98 Expedition does. You cant siphon the gas if you want to. Makes dropping the tank a real PITA. If you need to work on it you pretty much have to wait until your on E. I believe a lot of new cars have this screen in the tube but I don't know if they all do.

 

I also have the stant from Rockauto from the day i bought the stang a couple years ago (well a few days after due to delivery!). The only concern would be to make sure it's on tight. I've had the check engine light come on because the cap wasn't on tight enough, but that's only happened a couple of times. After relocking, the light goes away.

 

I bought a Stant locking cap for my '06 GT. It looks exactly like the factory cap except for the key slot. I'm sure Stant makes the factory caps.

Yeah, I'm just lazy and haven't had the need to do any tank related maintenance/repairs yet on the stang so I haven't messed with it.

 

I thought most of the cars today have a coil-spring like piece of metal in
the fill-neck, that prevents a hose from being shoved down into the tank.
Of course, that wouldn't prevent somebody from dumping some
crap into the tank. I reckon I need to look.

 

Yes, but I have no trouble getting a hose past it on my Ranger when I need gas for the lawnmower.

 

It is. I had one on my Monte Carlo. Every **** time you have to figure out when its unlocked, or re-locked. If its cold out, that's just extra time your hands are getting bit by the wind, and if you let someone borrow the car and the spare keychain doesn't have the key on it then they're screwed. Plus roadsalt, grime, etc gets in and jams up the lock. Been there, done that. No thanks.

Besides...how much gas to they expect to be left in a muscle car?

 

I just bought the Stant gas cap two days ago and it works just fine... Most local auto parts retailers carry this brand.

 

The cap only prevents the end result, though...Even if they can't dump something in, they still tried.

Maybe rig something up to the fuel door so that if it's touched while the system is armed...ZAP.

The bodies might be a hassle to get rid of tho.

 

Back in the day, we used to put the locking gas caps on, to prevent the haters from dumping any sugar or sand into the car's fuel system. We got a nice Ford factory one from Mr. "KC" last winter. When we ordered our Bullitt steering wheel, a shifter bezel and the TMS Stang cover. Just for some peace of mind. CalStang
