loaded V6 pony vs GT/CS...worth the money?

Just sold my 05 vette today. Got tired of leaving one of the kids behind when we went driving. ( I shouldn't have sold my 01 GT conv to begin with ! ) So now I need to decide if the 6-7 grand difference between a max out V6 and a loaded GT/CS is worth the money. I know the problem is very subjective, but going from 400hp to 210hp is going to take a bit of getting used to, but I love the look of the poney front end.

Also, what have people found as gas mileage on the V6 and the GT's.

Lastly, does the mustang forum have any "dealer" members that will do any better than the x plan, or is the x plan doing pretty good.

Thanks in advance.

Why not go with a regular GT, it's a little cheaper and brings the price closer to the V6.

The mileage is a little bit better with the V6, but 2-3 MPG isn't that much. Here's a link to the new more realistic 2008 EPA estimates for the Mustang.

I'm getting like 19 in the city with my GT and I drive it moderately aggressive. My old Mazda6s got about the same mileage with a V6 as my GT does with a V8 and I drive the Mustang much harder.

Hey, welcome to the site!...I'm kinda confused by the choices you are trying to decide between,..(I'm guessing you like options)...I would say that in order to have no regrets, get the GT/CS...unless you would regret spending the money.

If your coming from a Vette, go with Shelby GT with a little more power. The CS is mostly an appearance package (I think). Otherwise go with a standard Mustang GT. If you like the Poney nose so much, that nose can be swapped onto a GT but you need entire bumper cover and grill to make the swap. Then you can always add power enhancing mods later.

To go down to a V6 from the Vette will be quite a drop and I think you'll be unhappy in the long run (you can't see the nose while your driving anyway...) Unless you have some teenage drivers that might be driving it, that is...

At least that is just my $0.02.

I personally think going for the GT and getting a good amount of options would be a better route. Get the nice added horsepower and save same cash that would be spent on the GT/CS apperance package and buy a few cosmetic mods on the side. JMO

But I'd deff opt for the V8 in either choice. Not to put down the V6 in anyway.

So far, you guys read my mind. 400hp to 210hp is not an option( the smile was just to big forget!), but I also have a new driver coming along soon ( but I think the insurance on them will force the use of the other cars to drive). Money is not the issue, just want to feel that I got my monies worth ( Since I'll drive it less than 7-8k per year). Looks like 35200msrp, about 33000 x plan guessing.
Candy apple red/black cloth top/
5sp,Interior and premier trim upgrades,HID, heated seats, Sirius.

Is there anyone that you guys recomend as far as getting a good deal, like better than X plan if possible?

Thanks again for all the posts

If you buy in the next few days and buy a 07, you can get a 2K rebate on top of the xplan, which makes for a pretty decent buy. I'd go with a GT.

Deffinitely the GT all the way. I promise will you have regrets if you go for less. 400plus ponies to 210 is one heck of a difference. I would say get the premium GT with options to satisfy the option bug in you.. then add the exterior appearance yourself..(chin spoiler, striping, wheels, spoiler, etc). WOW 33k....hmmm I bought my 2007 last september for 27k fully loaded out the door. NO X plan. Yes the MSRP sticker says 33k but please please dont let him take you for that much.... the MSRP on mine was 31k I believe...I got him to 27k and from what I heard I could have gotten him lower than that.... Haggle haggle haggle it pays off. Just let him know...."Well I was going to drive away with one today...but it seems that the price is just a little too high.....then procede to leave" Watch how the allmighty salesman says "hold on just a minute...let me talk to my manager" and CHA CHING! GOOD LUCK!! and remember we are all here to help so ask whatever you must

V8, hands down. You're not only giving up 400hp, you're giving up 400ft-lbs--and you will DEFINITELY miss those, especially if you're going to have two passengers. GT w/ some nice options will run you less than GT/CS--it's all just cosmetic crap anyway.

There isn't much difference in fuel cost between an auto V6 and V8. Go for the V8, whether it's a GT or GT/CS.

Had an 05 V6 'Vert for about 10 months, (all options, paid 26K), put on 5k miles. In march 06, Ford extended 3000.00 dealer cash, plus 1.9%, plus 1000.00 rebate, paid 25300 fot GT 'Vert (same color, all options again) (got 23000 on trade for the V6). Best upgrade with nothing but smiles! Even my wife loved the sound and the power of the GT. 18 mos later...no regrets. Go for the GT!

As as v6 owner, I also say go with the V8 GT...however I wouldn't do a Shelby GT...in my opinion it's probably as big as a ripoff as the GT/CS...unless you have no problem paying for goodies that you could probably get for cheaper in the aftermarket. I'd go with a loaded premium GT vert, then take the money that would have been used in the Shelby GT or GT/CS and use it to buy go fast goodies for the GT. I don't think it would be that hard to outperform a Shelby GT by adding some basic bolt-ons. Just my opinion. Shelby owners don't get offended by my comments I just don't feel the Shelby GT is worth the price of admission and even if I could afford it, I wouldn't get it.

That's my .02

Carsdirect.com list a 2007 Ford Mustang GT Premium 2dr Coupe with 5 speed for $24,197. Check out that web site and take a print out to the deal with all the option you want and gop from there. Good luck.
