What about replacing the light bulbs to get that clearer "WHITE" look instead of the standard "YELLOWISH" bulb? What size bulb would it take?

You could replace them with the white looking lights, but it wouldn't be worth it. The blue filters on those white bulbs cause greater glare to oncoming drivers and also diffuse light more than standard bulbs leaving less light on the road.

The bulbs in the new mustang are pretty good. They have 1500 lumens on bright and 1000 lumens on low so they compare pretty favorably to other bulbs.

Until Ford offers us a HID setup (Cobra/SE maybe?) I'd recommend sticking with the standard halogen bulbs.
IF you want whiter, don't go with the blue coated ones. Spend the money and get Piaa's. I have a set of 9007 PIAA's that have lasted 6 years so far and going strong! They also match the same wattage as the manufactuer!
and yes PIAA Super whites are DOT and SAE approved!!

Actually, this is an interesting topic as it relates to the GT. I'm curious to how much better the lighting is with the extra set of driving lights in the grill? 4 lights should be much better than 2 and the new lights are not almost useless fog lights like before.

well i could care less about spending money on headlights. the combo of the fogs and headlights should be bright enough for me. on the other hand, does anyone know if smoked lens covers will be available? think that would look sweet on the new stang.

You won't be seeing an aftermarket HID kit because they are illegal. Only OEM HID's are allowed. If Ford comes out with HID's for the Mustang next year you could then retrofit those, because they are OEM.
Retrofit HID's are easy!!! CATZ manufacturers most of the OEM HID kits
You may find retrofit kits from Catz, but they are still illegal. Each "kit" has to be filed with the NHTSA. Some of the things they have to file are beam pattern, electrical specs, bulb specs, etc. In order to file the beam pattern, they have to have the lens and reflector. The aftermarket kits you see just include bulbs, ballasts, but no replacement lenses. The only aftermarket certified kit I've seen is Sylvanias kit for the F150 and Explorer.

Thats why the only retrofit you can legally do is an HID kit that was designed for your car. Basically, if the manufacturer didn't design it originally, you're pretty much out of luck.

Ford really should have spent the extra money to go with the Xenon HID setup. It would have added maybe $600 dollars to the price of the car. At least it should have been an option, I mean heck you can get it on the Mazda 3.
Remember, the reason the Mustang is so affordable is because Ford leaves out items like this. That being said, I wonder if they could offer it on the Cobra? Hmmm.
true but still comes with quality parts

As long as the headlights on the 05 dont yellow over like the ones on my 97 did, I'll be a happy camper.

Ok, I have no idea what the heck it is that you guys are discussing. The only thing I can't figure out is if they are illegal then why can we go to our local Freds, Dollar Store, Big Lots, or WalMart & buy them. I mean laser dectors were supossed to be illegal where I live likfe 7 years ago & I walked into the local dollar store & saw one for sale.

So if these things are so illegal then why are they soo easy to purchase?

Now, I understans you guys are talking about aftermarket lights but I am not familier with exactly what it is that you are referring to with the HID and stuff like that so, maybe mmy post is not all that intellegant. But either way it's just my 2 cents.

Cheers mates.

From what I understand the redesign of the headlights from the 99+ Mustangs took care of the yellowing problem so I dont see Ford making a big mistake by having the new headlights have that particular problem so Im sure I'll have no complaints.
And yes, Greg, I understood what you were trying to say, even though your comments were only slightly clearer than my headlights.

I have hids now and still wouldnt bother with the stang, I dont think it would look right. I still think all the cars look silly now with hid headlights and halogen fog lights, including mine, so I hardly ever run with them on. I will get silverstars though for both sets of bulbs With my HID's now, the halogen hibeams are still much much brighter, just not too-cool-for-school blue.

We are talking about real Xenon HID headlights that you find in a BMW or Audi not the Silverstars and the like you see at the store. These systems require modification to the electrical system as well as projectors and shielding to function properly.
