What do you guys think? The light bar look is growing on me. I can't decide if I'll want one on my vert. Hmm...

Don't flame me for this one, but I couldn't see myself installing something that makes the beautiful lines of the Vert look like the last factory Cutlass convertible they made about 10 years ago. Just my .02 worth.

 

IMHO, the vert just doesn't look right. It reminds me of an 80's BMW 3 series.
I voted for the light bar. It gives it a little bit of the look of a '68 1/2 Shelby GT 500KR. (You know, the one with the surfboard clips on top. )

 

No light bar, thank you. Spoils the lines. It's too vertical.
I'll leave it to the VW Cabriolets, PT Cruisers...

The Light Bar look is growing on me too, but I've only seen them in photos. I guess it is kind of an aquired taste. It really changes the lines. For me, it gives the convertible a more aggressive look. I like jadeuel's Mustang GT vert. jadeuel's got the hood scoop going, fanblades, spoiler, the dark charcoal seats with the "GT" headrests, the vert softboot; and the legend lime (an exterior color that has grown on me too) looks great.

My understanding is that the the Light Bar isn't guaranteed to save you in the event of a rollover accident, but maybe it just might save your life? The roof of a coupe isn't guaranteed to save you from injury in the event of a rollover either. The Mustang with its relatively low center of gravity shouldn't be too vulnerable to having a rollover accident anyway.

My wife and I have a 2007 Mustang GT redfire convertible on order. We haven't decided on whether or not to get a Light Bar. Seeing a Mustang with a Light Bar live and in person rather than just looking at a picture would make a big difference.

 

Light bars completely ruin the sleek look of the vert. Does not belong.

 

My thoughts exactly. The Cutlass was slammed for not being a true convertible since it needed the bar, and here folks go and ruin the beautiful lines of the Mustang by adding one themselves! But to each his own, that is why the aftermarket is so popular.

 

Not sure...but I've been debating this mod for my '07 GT/CS vert as well. I'd need to see one up close and I wouldn't really want a light in it as it would look kind of "rice" IMO.

How sturdy are they - cosmetic only or do they help protect in a rollover situation?

 

They are called light bars and not roll bars for a reason, it's not going to help much in a rollover.

I personally like the look of it though, if I had a vert I would get one.

 

Was going to get one at first,but the more I looked at mine w/out it the more I liked it..Please no flame for this one,but i think sometimes when people start adding too much stuff it looks like they are trying too hard.almost juvenile IMO. (i'm almost 40 now so younger generation I can understand doing it) Once again JMO

 

It's a matter of Personal Taste, not Right or Wrong.

I like the the Light Bar, the Look is right for me. ALSO;
The Bar adds Stability to the Frame of the Vert and may save you from getting a haircut in a Roll over.

You have to go with your gut feeling on this and don't worry about what others think.

Something to consider.

If you like the light bar and plan on KEEPING the Mustang for a very long time then I say go for it.

If you don't plan on keeping the Mustang for a long time then I say don't do it because it may limit who will buy it.

 

Light bars are not worth the trouble.
Just put in a real roll bar - That looks tough and will protect you!

 

I voted for Yes since I have one. I don't think it ruins the lines at all but thats just my personal taste. Also the install was easy and only took about 2 hours.

 

I've got one and really love it! The CDC version is really top-notch construction, it's a beautiful piece. Fit and finish is perfect. I recommend the WebElectric switch as well, it shuts the 3rd brake light off when the top is up so you don't light up the back of the car when you hit your brakes.

I've been driving for 30+ years, have not rolled a car yet and don't plan on it. I agree safety is important but not with that look.

 

I intend to order the CDC lightbar with the Haney Wind Guard

 

The light bar will provide absolutly no, as in none, not one bit of roll over protection. Even if the bar itself were strong enough to hold up the car which it isn't, look how it's attached. Roll bars should be welded to the frame.

But if you like the look I say go for it.
