The new mustang is 6 inches longer, 1 inch wider, and 1.4 inches taller.
Overall the interior is 4.4 inches longer.
Question to those who have been in the car?? With the increase in the interior in mind, did anyone sit in the back seat to see if there is a noticable difference in room. The back seat on current stangs are useless IMO. Only carry passengers if it is a must.

The back seats still look tight.
The front seats, the biggest improvement I noticed is there is a lot more footroom, somehow the '02 GT that I drove felt cramped.
Also I found the seating position on the SN95's as if you sit "high" in the car. The '05 feels prefect. Great view of the gauges, etc.

I sat in the back seat at the Detroit (Belle Isle) Racing/Innovation Drive. I had my buddy get in the front seat. Granted, he is only 5' 9" and I am 5' 11', but I still had a couple of inches of leg room sitting right behind him. I wouldn't want to sit behind someone well over 6', but to be honest the back seats were comfortable. I was surprised.

The back seat looked like it had a little more leg room than an 03-04, but the biggest difference I noticed was that I could sit in the drivers seat with the back straight up and my head cleared the roof. I'm 6'8"--so that's a big deal. By comparison, I have to recline the seat in my 03 to drive it, and when I do, nobody is getting in the seat behind me (except my 4 year old nephew). So yeah, I'd say interior room is more useable--but only slightly... LOL

I'm not sure that the back seat has any increased height... But the Front seat does, and if your accustomed to reclining the drivers seat just to drive the previous generation 05--then you'll get that room back.

I don't think the '05 is 6" longer overall. The wheelbase is but, not the cars length. The '05 has a shorter front overhang than the previous years, that is where they are getting a 6" wheelbase increase from.
found it: 4.4" length increase.
current '04 = 183.2
'05 = 187.6

I presently drive my three kids (15B,14G,12B) to school in my 2000 Bonneville. They're all psyched to be driven there in an 05 Mustang but I expect to be using the trunk for backpacks! My older boy is over 6 ft now with size 14 feet - doubtful for the backseat under any scenario! By next year sometime he'll have a license so most likely he'll be driving us to school then I'll take over to go to work. Gonna be tight but I doubt they'll mind tooo much as long as their friends can see them in the car!!!

I was a bit afraid that at 6'2" I would feel a little bit cramped in the driver seat of the 2005. I never tried the previous model but I heard it was uncomfortable for 5'9" and taller drivers! What are your opinions about that?

Increased rear seat legroom is a moot point for me as in the 2 1/2+ years I've owned my car I've only had people in it once and they were kids, so they were fine.
Regardless, I wouldn't want to sentence any full size human to an extended stay in the back seat of any Mustang.

Hehehe! Well I'm sure we all agree this is not the perfect "family getaway" car which is not at all what I'm looking for! But I really hope I can find a comfortable driving position in that beauty...

Okay I want my kids to grow up on American muscle so they will occupy the back seats on cruise nights.

Haha my family will roll in the Taurus. The truck is for the boat (I will own one day). The Mustang will be for mommy and daddy date nights.

No offense, but someone else who was "above average height" was complaining to me about about roominess. Try being 6'8" and being confined in EVERYTHING thats not a truck, with the exception of cadillacs, lincolns, and S class Benz'z.
However I find the Camaro quite roomy even with size 15s, but it's an auto, thats what should really be talking about, because manuals can destroy the legroom in some cars. Because on the highway i rest my left foot under where the clutch would be which is substantially more comfortable then the deadpedal, woudln't be able to do that with a manual. Makes me wonder if my next car will be a stick after all.
