Anybody know what is the last day to order a 2007 mustang?

I'm concerned that the new more realistic EPA mileage ratings coming out for 2008 models may make the Mustang GT have a gas guzzler tax.

This may be an unfounded concern but just incase, I want to know the last day to order an 07.

 

CAFE will continue to use the old EPA #s.
The new EPA mileage ratings are for "consumer information only". at least for the time being.

 

Thanks for that info V10. I knew it didn't effect CAFE but didn't know if the gas guzzler tax was directly related.

It's hard to say until we get official word from Ford. Nothing has been communicated to us yet.

As a reference... the 06 Mustang order bank closed in April. I would suspect the same for MY07.

 

Production of the 07 Mustang started unusually early, 1st week of June.
Normal model change over is late July, early August. No word yet on the 08 model change over, but from a historical perspective I'd expect the 07 order banks to be open until early May.

 

I wasn't clear on it, but my understanding is the old EPA mileage #s are still going to be used for determining the gas guzzler tax too. Logically at some point in the future more realistic EPA mileage test #s should be used for all factors, but that is going to require adjusting the guzzler thresholds and CAFE. It would be extremely politically unpopular to lower guzzler & EPA #s to make them match the new EPA tests so my guess is that this is going to take years to straighten out.

As an aside, if you search the internet you'll find lots of upset Prius owners who have never come close to achieving the Prius 60 MPG rating. 45 is more like it and that's what I think the new EPA test # comes in at.
