Looks like Hurricane will possibly be in the F-150 by 2006. With Ford's new "Value" V8's (based on Hurricane) it is more than likely we'll see a larger displacement motor in the Mustang GT by 2007. How does 5.?L sound to you? Bids are currently being filled and some plants have already won contracts for this. Mustang GT WILL be competing with Camaro LS2 in 2007!!! (based upon my research)

Thats great. Considering its a mod head I think ford could easily do this.

A mod head? I know the architecture is supposed to be different from the MOD motors. Where did you hear they're using the MOD head?

So, is it confirmed that the Hurricane is a completely new engine and not mod based?

The original mod motor assured that parts would be interchangeable in between a 5.4 and a 4.6 .... Knowing that both are three valve in design and have the same technology barring the cams so they should be interchangeable and easy to manufacture and phase the 4.6 out if they wanted to.

Mach1fever, the Hurricane isn't based off the MOD motor from what I hear, so I don't think the 3V heads are going to work. The Hurricane (and siblings) will have larger bores.

LOL, a "chevy coupe" IS coming in 2007/08. Whether they call it Camaro or not is another topic.

Hurricane is an all new motor. Ive said it before that the modulars have a very finite lifespan left. It was supposed to be a FWD compact V8 and Ford ran out of development money. The hurricane is to be a 6.2L motor with room to go either way in displacement. The 6.2 will be a much lower deck height as well(so it will fit easilly in a car). The 4.6 had no room to bore out, so they raised the stroke, and its an extremely tall engine, they had to use a dry sump for the GT for it to fit.

That's right. The mod motor architecture is a dead end for large displacement. The only way is more stroke and thus taller and taller motors. I think the 5.4 has a longer stroke than the BB460s and Chevy 502. I'm amazed they got 6500rpm out the GT motor.

The new Hurricane series will have much wider bore spacing allowing for big bore short stroke motors for RWD. Combine that with 3V OHC and you've got a high revving powerhouse. And once you change bore spacing, you can't use a previous series motors' heads.

I really hope this is true. I want to compete cube for cube. I'm tired of being the underdog. They could save a butt load of money if they use the same architecure and just space the bores apart, even better yet, make it the same as the 5.0 borespacing. Then we can build frakenstien motors like the old days when we started mix matching cleveland and windsor motors. Long rod, short stroke, big bore horsepower maker. I really think Ford screwed the pooch on the mod motor bore spacing. Everything else about the motor is great.

Actually the 5.0/5.8 had wimpy bore spacing compared to the Chevy SB and the old and new Chrysler V8s. Big bore 5.0s have paper thin cylinder walls.

I think they'll go a little bigger than the competition which at this point is the Hemi.

You can bore the dart blocks .125 over, and still hold a lot of cylinder pressure, and I believe its the same for the motorsports stuff too, but yes, I would like to have all the advantage I can get.
