My brother and I went to the local Ford dealership to check out the new Mustang.
My 6' 4" brother's knees were crunched up against the steering wheel and the center console even with the seat all the way back and to the floor.
1. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
2. Is the problem due to the large steering wheel?
3. Are there any steering wheels available for the 05 Mustang that don't block the guages too badly?
4. Would aftermarket seats help?

I'm 6' 5", 240 lbs and fit in the car very well with the seat all the way back and down. That being said, I do feel it would be a little cramped if I drove it cross country.

I'm 6'4" 225 lbs and I fit fine in the car with the seat almost all the way back. My knees where not hitting the stearing wheel at all. There is a tad less overall room then my Accord Coupe but its not by much.

I'm 6'4" and weigh more than the previous posters so I won't say how much.
Mine is still on order, but when I test drove the car I put the seat the whole way back with a slight tilt backwards and had the seatback about 3 notches back and my legs were almost completely straight and I had ~3 in. of headroom left. My knees didn't touch the steering column, but I did have it all the way up and it didn't block my vision. Some people have more of their height in their legs, maybe that's why.

Some people's legs are longer than others...
I'm only 6'1" where my brother is 6'3". When I drive a car he has been driving, I have to move the seat back (if possible) to be comfortable driving.
That said, I also sit rather upright as opposed to reclined.
Sat in a v6 the other day though, seemed rather comfy, though I did move the seat back all the way.

I'm 6'2" 250, and sitting in a few left me no worries. In fact last week I was at the dealership and I sat in a leather V6 and played around with the seat controls a bit, and found that my favorite seating position was very comfortable.
I've got an odd way of sitting in a vehicle with power seats. I put the back of the seat all the way down, and the front of the seat all the way up, and then I take the backrest and move it forward. Most people look at me weird, but it really does wonders for my artharitic back, and has the side benefit of requiring less legroom in that position, meaning "something" may be able to sit in back of me.

I'm 6'-4" 250 and the only issue I have is that I have to adjust the seat height just right so my knee doesn't rub the side of the very hard console. Head height and leg room are fine. It seems a little close with a winter coat on, but I haven't had any claustrophobic episodes.

I'm 6'2" 230lbs and I feel that I actually have more leg room than I did in my '91 Mustang GT. I don't feel that my knees are getting in the way of the steering wheel like they used to.

6'6" and 280lbs. I have more room than in my 03 Mustang. My left leg seems to have a lot more room. In my 03, my knee cancels my left hand blinker when I let out the clutch. I was suprised how much head room and I had.

hah, sixtysix, we sit almost the same way! even better, I'm 6'2, 275, so built alot alike. crazy stuff, huh.
oh yeah, the topicWe had one guy, that was 6'6, on that was 6'7, myself at 6'2, and the salesman at 6'1, and everyone was comfortable, even with the tallest behind each other.
unless all of your height is legs, it should be good.

I'm 6 foot 4 and fit fine. I'm long in the torso and (comparatively) short in the legs, so I have to push the seat forward quite a ways just to reach the steering wheel. I have to duck to see traffic lights, but I can live with that.
I'm pretty happy that Ford realizes a mainstream car has to fit a lot of different peope and designed it accordingly.

Well It sounds to me like you are describing an 04 Mustang to me. I am 6'4" tall, and have a 34" Inseam, and I am 385 pounds. I have sat in many 05 Mustangs since they have been released, and have Driven 4 Different 05's, and have never had any of the problems you or your brother say you have experienced in the 05.
The Steering wheel tilts, so it won't touch your legs, and so you can find an unobstructed view of the guages, and the seats are Completly adjustable. I actually had to move the seat up some to find a comfortable positon to drive, because with it all the way back I felt too far from the controls. But I still had no problem with my Leg/Knees touching the dash or console. Things I could never claim about an 04 Mustang.

I am 6'7" but tall in torso, short in leg.
My knees are less than an inch from the dash, but that's fine, what scrapes more, 1" clearance or 4" clearance? Neither (grin).
I am a big guy, 285lbs, and I don't have any issues with the size of the drivers seat or the headroom/legroom.

I am 6'7", 300+lbs, played college football and basketball. I Just ordered a 2005 Mustang GT. During the test-drive at the dealeship I felt very comfy with regard to the legroom and headroom. I had a slight problem with the shoulder space, but that's probably just my problem, because I am ridiculously wide at the shoulders, to the point that people think I have a genetic malformation or something.
Unless the driver is clinically obese, or does 5000 squats a day, legroom (or "knee-room") should not be a problem
