Are the Stang keys going to have the remote keyless built onto the key, or is it a seprate fob?

I know its a stupid topic

we gotta have something to talk about, my guess is a fob, but a 1 piece thing would be sick.

The key I used to start the 05 GT was stand alone and the engineer said the remote was separate. I didn't see the remote. The key is the standard looking Ford key, same one I saw on an 04 Explorer.

I prefer separate because replacement keys are cheaper and I'll be getting an aftermarket 2-way security system.

2 separate things.

Its the 'newer' style Ford key with the Blue oval on them...as opposed to the older style engraved with the ford symbol.

Newer one looks great

The key should be the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) key, also known as SecuriLock. It's a security feature that disables the starter unless your specially programmed key is used to start the car. There is a computer chip inside the key and without that you won't be able to start it, even if you have a regular (non-PATS) key with the correct cuts.

yah and thats otherwise known as a laser cut key... my sis, mom and dad all have them on their suzukis... only that my dad also has his door lock key fob built into his key with the alarm that gets armed when the doors are locked with the buttons on his key.

he also has a key fob thats seperate too on his spare key. both are laser cut keys too and they gave him a spare chip incase he was to get another key cut B)

I Think ford should have some sort of key with a mustang on it. Something custom. But I don't think that will happen. you'll be able to get something aftermarket if you want. If ford wanted to have some fun. they could have keyless entry like on the new lexus's. just put your finger on the handle and the comp reads your finger print. and if its a match. your car opens right up. Now thats cool. if ford did that I would be happy.

Fingerprint doors would be nice, but I don't want to pay Lexus prices.

I got this from the lexus.com:
With the revolutionary SmartAccess option, you can lock and unlock your doors, open the trunk, and turn the ignition switch - all without having to take your keys out of your pocket or purse. As soon as the sensors detect the presence of your SmartAccess key, the door unlocks when you touch the handle.
I knew it was by touch because I've seen the commercials, but I didn't think it was from fingerprints.
Without having to use the key for any real purpose, you would think that you would forget to put it in your pocket.

Mercedes have a transponder key that's the size of a credit card you can fit in your wallet. The car senses the card and all you have to do is press the start button. No key needed.

It will be 2 seperate things, a smart key for the engine and a keyfob for the alarm system, just like on my Mazda Tribute or Escape for you Ford SUV owners out there.

Wrong. The smartkey access is the keyfob that is constantly transmitting a radio freq. and the car picks it up when you are within 10 feet of the car. Everything becomes unlocked and accessible. When you walk away, more than 10 feet again, everything locks up. Its a cool system, but kinda lame that you still need a fob on your key chain, and its actually way bigger than usual.

The new Vettes have this, and so does the Cadi XLR. The Lexus is this system, not a fingerprint ID. The trunk and doors all have little rubber push-buttons that complete a circuit, much like the ones that open the glass on newer explorers, mountaineers and navs. Also, the car starts with a button.
