Top speed limiter is turned off on any aftermarket tune, he probably had a stolen mustang with a tune!! Chances of the radar being off by more than + or - 1mph is small, I use the radar guns all the time and they all have self diagnostics that are performed automatically every time they are turned on. Not to mention they SHOULD be checked every day for accuracy using a set of special tuning forks. Either way, 149...152...whats the difference really?
Not to be argumentative, but the rev and speed limiters are not automatically turned off on any aftermarket tune. If you get a tune from Bamachips you have to specifically ask him to turn them off.
What the hell are the police thinking chasing him at 150 and even trying to spike the tires at such high speeds! Dumb @sses lucky some innocent person didn't get killed in the process because this kid lost control. In many jurisdictions if someone is going at these speeds in a "stolen" car officers are supposed to back off. Best solution call in a helicopter to follow and apprehend later. If this kid had hit someone, god forbid killed them, lawyers would be so far up these cops butts if would make their head spin. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for cops and getting this kid, but this was clearly reckless. Sure the kid was, but the cops are paid to know better. This could have gone VERY badly and BOTH the kid and the cops are VERY lucky.
#1. It's Idaho, probably about 5 cars on the whole highway at any given time. Very desolate roadways out there.
#2. Cops weren't "chasing" him at 150, the Crown Vic's that most agencies use top out at 130. By the time the Vic got up to 130, he was probably 2 miles ahead of them anyway.
#3. It's Idaho, they probably didn't have any helicoptors available.
#4. Spike strips are actually a very safe way to stop a vehicle. The spikes themselves are hollow like a straw. They stick into the tire and let air out slowly and controlled, slowing the car gradually as the air pressure gets lower and lower. Eventually, yes it is a flat tire, and it can and will desintegrate. There just isn't the classic "blowout" situation where the tire suddenly explodes.
Not really trying to bash on Idaho, just that it is not a very populous state in general, and they lack the resources that many larger metro areas have such as helicoptors and such.

Where the heck did I get Idaho from then??
Police say that on Wednesday at approximately 7:30 AM, the 17-year old juvenile male suspect from Star, Idaho, was driving a stolen 2006 Ford Mustang GT when he attempted to use a stolen credit card to purchase gas at an Arlington-area gas station. The suspect left eastbound from the gas station on Interstate 84.
Ah, that's where, the kid was FROM Idaho, the chase happened in Oregon. Ooops... Still, it sounded like it was a pretty remote area it happened in.

I'm guessing he had the 3.31 axle ratio

probably was going a bit downhill or driving with the wind
a few days back, with 3.55 gears and the speed limiter removed and rev limiter set to 6800 i got to 163mph / 262kph as clocked on my GPS (needle was on 140mph / 240kmh and GPS speedo kept going)

The old cobras either did not have a limiter, or it was set higher than the GT's. The new GT500's have a higher speed limiter, I can't remember what it is. Seems like it was 159 or something??
I-84
This is I-84 in eastern Oregan and Idaho, lots of room for a WOT run !
My SCT from Brenspeed came with built in speed limiter even though
the factory tune had it disabled being a Canadian car. Adjustable Parameters
disables it with the SCT.

The inland Pacific Northwest is not LA. It's not even Seattle or Portland, but I can tell you one thing for sure. The roads are not empty. I know the area where this crazy thing happened real well. It's not far from my house in the Tri-Cities. US 395 is about 1/2 mile east of my door and it intersects I-84 about 30 miles to the south. In that area, there is traffic from Hermiston and Umatilla, and a good number of interstate trucks, along with families in their vans, and me, from time to time. I say lock up the little punk (and anybody else who wants to do a WOT run) and throw away the key. You want speed, go to the track!
