issue with blow motor possibly?

When i have the fan off air will still come through and more forcefully as i drive faster. at 70mph its almost the same speed air coming through as if the fan is on 2. if i select fan 1 and floor the air will stop coming through the upper vents.

do i need a new blower motor?

any idea would be great

thanks

If I understand you correctly, you do not need a blower.

That is the normal control for the system. Once you put the mode switch on their is a very slow fan speed. If you listen carefully you can hear it running & fell it pushing air.

To totally turn off the system put it in the off mode. You will then see the fan will not operate at all no matter what position you put the fan switch on..

Sounds like a control problem with the HVAC vent system. Your 1st post did say that if you turned to the floor the vent stopped blowing.

Do you have control at other positions?

If so then the system is not closing when you want it off.

Most cases it is a vacuum leak causing the loss of control.

Can you hear any high pitched whistle sound from the dash area or under the hood?

if i switch it from OFF to floor it will stop coming out of the vent and come out of the floor.
would the high pitch whine increase with the rpm? i havent checked yet just want to know what i am listening for.

just to be clear the ac and heat controls work fine..its just when i turn it off that this happens

thanks

Maybe the vent that closes when you push the recirculate button isn't closing when you turn the system completely off ? Try hitting the recirculate button to see what happens ...

The vent area under the wipers will draw in air as you drive faster.

Has the car ever been wreaked or had any dash work done?

haha, no.

Last thought as it is very hard to diagnosis on the internet.

The cabin air filter is easy to access. It is behind the battery covered by a small panel with plastic clips. Pull the filter & see if you can diagnosis what is happening. I forget what is exactly behind the filter & how much room you have, but you may find the problem. You may also want to change the filter.

From your description it really sounds like a door in the heating/AC system is not closing. If you turn the system off, there should be no air coming out anywhere, that's how mine works. That whole system is behind the dash. I haven't had to work on that kind of a problem for years, and older cars were much easier.
