Not two weeks after I had my '01 my key fob quit working! I realize it is a redundant button (like stereo controls on the steering wheel). I still like having it though. I hate using my key to unlock a door/trunk. It seems that no matter how careful you are, you end up with a scratch.

 

There is one in Pittsburgh that has three seperate screens. They show two movies for $5

 

Yes this is very annoying. My 99 cougar had no trunk release and it was a pain when you had to run to the trunk for something. (CDs, jacket, umbrella.) The Focus was very well laid out and placed the trunk release in the upper-most left-hand corner of the gauge cluster. This is easily reachable from standing outside the car and just leaning in and while you are seated. I use my trunk release all the time when the car isn't running. Whenever I wash the car I unlock it first and leave the keys somewhere else so as not to ding the car while I am leaning on it to dry the roof. There have been hundreds of times when I will release the trunk to dry under the spoiler, under the liscense plate and in/around the weather stripping where water collects. This is really going to bug the heck out of me.

 

Just use the trunk button on the remote. It works anytime the vehicle isn't moving. Even if the key in in the ignition and the car is running.

 

I'm not sure what the big deal is to have a trunk release. You have a keyfob and a new invention called a...are you ready for this... a "key". I know, hard to believe. You actually put the key into this cool thing called a keyhole that is located in, where else, the trunk. You then turn the key and presto, it opens. Sweet invention if you ask me. Wonder why they didn't think of this sooner

 

Like I said in that other thread, I use the internal trunk release often enough now that I know I'd miss it, for the above reason. And yes, my current car has a FOB.

That's why I'm going to order a 3rd FOB and velcro it somewhere in the car (glovebox or center console).

 

don't forget about the emergency release for people locked in the trunk

 

hey, now that's not a bad idea except i guess if someone breaks into your car they can turn the alarm off??

 

Just get the keyless touch pad and install it. It will do everything the remote does, except the panic button. No need for key or remote.

Good point about the theft...'course you assume they'll know to look for the FOB. Not like I'd have it on display. And there are ways to disable buttons...

Not sure where you live but around here my car would be locked so I would need my keys just to get into my car to use the trunk release if it had one.

 

We are just kickin the heck outta of a dead horse here...
