My Mustang GT is due to be delivered sometime next week. I was originally thinking that my insurance was going to be $1100 per six months (that is max coverage on everything with $500 collision deductible for me a 23 year old male with Geico).

I was just pleasantly surprised when I called Geico to give them the VIN for my Mustang GT and they told me that my insurance would actually be $899 per 6 months. That is only $200 more per 6 months than my Toyota Camry. I don't think that is bad at all.

Just wanted to share my experience for those under the age of 25 wondering about insurance. Of course these are quotes for me living in Houston, TX and having a perfect driving record. So your quotes will probably differ based on those two things.

I am in Houston also but older and I am using Amica(located in Sugarland) and they are giving me insurance on my 05 Accord for $250 less per year than Allstate was. I was using Allstate since 95 when I bought the Accord new. They haven't bothered calling me to try to get my business back. Oh well.... I also have a perfect driving record and an Excellant FICO score, which helps.

I used InsWeb for rate comparisons. Amica is A+ rated and Great Customer Service!

Since you are under 25, I would rate shop unless you are tied to Geico.

YMMV

What kind of policy are y'all getting?

I was quoted at $900 every 6 months from my insurance company of 12 years. I'm 27 now. $900 seems high compared to others, but my policy covers more per accident, hospital, etc. than the other. The minimum policy I think is around $600/6months

$750 per 6 months for full coverage (normal amounts) and $500 deductibles. That includes my 1997 Prelude Type SH (which has all the same coverages minus collision and comprehensive).

I'm 25, have one speeding ticket on record (5mph over), and it's with Geico.

I just got quote $1577 for the year for an 06 GT in NJ. Shocked the heck of out me since I'm only paying 200 less a year for an 02 Focus SVT. I used to pay $2400 a year on my old 98 GT with a perfect record, but I was under 25 at the time.

$868 per 6 months with Geico, after having 1 2005 GT totalled. It actually went down! I think the crash test ratings are better than anybody originally expected. I am 22 years old. not bad at all in my opinion.

Keep in mind I have all my insurance needs with these guys (through work = Raytheon). This includes three other cars (1996 Contour, 2002 Ford Explorer Limited V8 and a 1989 Mustang LX Sport 5.0 w/31K original miles) and an 18 year old licensed driver (my son) living at home.. My total premimium for all these vehicles (all w/$1k ded and comprehensive ;w/exception of the Contour) is $1202.00 for six months...

Point here, is check your benifits if available to you through your work.. It just might save you a bundle.. We were paying over twice this amount w/Nationwide, and they were a good deal compared to GEICO, ALLSTATE, etc,)

25, clean record now, USAA $694/ 6 mos. in California ($500 ded.)! Since I just passed 9 years of driving experience, my insurance dropped $200 for a 6 month policy. DCPD158: Don't switch from USAA. They are great w/ customer service...and No, I don't work for them. Remember to ask for all of the discounts...grades (students), alarms, garaged, additional security (club), etc.
