Installing 18" Fanblades on 2005 GT w/17" wheels

I'm planning to install the 18" fanblade wheels/tires sold by Ford for the 2006 model year on my 2005 GT. I am replacing the 17" Bullitt wheels/tires that came with my car. Do I need to install a different steering stop? Do I need to have my speedo recalibrated?

Thanks for your advice!

You just need to change them, no special stuff. The 17" Wheel tire combo is the same diameter as the 18" combo. The 18" wheels have a lower side profile, so although the diameter of the wheel is larger, the total combo is the same diameter. No speedo changes, no adjustments. I bought the 18" Bullitt upgrades from the dealer and they just swapped the wheels and tires.

I changed from the 17" (cough cough) "upgrade" bright aluminum wheels to the Fanblades. Just like Shaun said - bolt 'em on and go. No recalibration necessary.

Enjoy! I *love* my 'Blades!!!

In 2006 FRPP cataloge they did not offer the steering stops but in the 2007 cataloge they do..go figure.I did order some 18" Black Bullitts for my 06'GT and I had no problems with that application.I would ask one of the service techs for this updated steering stop mod and why it is nessesary.
The fan blades should look great on your Mustang....roll on!

I did exactly the same thing. Though the difference in tire overall diameter was negligable, I had my service department recalibrate the computer to know exactly what size wheels/tire were on the car. Took less than 5 minutes and I have the satisfaction of knowing my cars computer is up-to-date! Plus, they did if for free!!

According to ford, when you put factory 18" wheels on a car that came with factory 17"s. You have to add a steering stop spacer kit to prevent rubbing.

True or not idk. All I will say is that it is plastered all over ford racings new catalog.

Thank you all for your help and advice! I'll probably take my chances without the steering stop or the recalibration. Again, thanks for your responses!

Happy holidays,
Stuart

Well, all I can say is that after 10,000 miles with the 18's, I have yet to rub a tire.

So you guys have gone with 255/45-18 tires with no speedo correction? Or, maybe different widths but the 45 profile to get the same diameter as the stock Pirellis on the 17" rims. Right?

I had the dealer put the factory 18" Bullitts on my '07, however I can't remember if they added any steering stops. I do know that they had to change the TPMS bands to ones that would fit on the 18s. So far no complaints.
