Guys, this car is a preproduction model. Look at the gauges - it has the IUP, but only two gauges and no message center. I guess this is the reason why there's an engine cover on it.

 

Yep, this car was a pre-production mule most probably...a few years back I overheard a conversation between a GM rep and a car show goer at the Chicago Auto Show talking about the Corvette interior...

Vette Fan, "Why does the interior look so crummy?"
GM rep, "During the week, the amount of people gettin' in and out puts about 50 years of wear and tear on the car..."

So, you can see how the Mustang looks so worn... especially if its been to a few shows and in a few mag tests.

The only downside I find in the interior is that while the seats are great for a stock car, after sitting in the Mach1 and VW R32, I really want some Recaros with big grabby sides...nice and comfy, cuz I like that kinda thing.

You're probalby right about the seats too. I remember them being comfortable in the sense that I wouldn't mind riding in them for extended periods of time. Since I don't remember much about the side-support, it must not have left a huge impression on me. I guess only driving could tell.

I would have loved to have taken the Mustang on the pylon course. I leaned on the 500 and freestyle pretty good and was impressed with the handling, considering that both models i drove were purely FWD.

My only regret, besides not having a Mustang to drive, was the fact that they should of had a longer area to really open the cars up. The sharp corners were fun, but you could only punch the gas briefly before hitting the next turn. They probably didn't want posers trying to corner at 70 mph

To follow up on the questions:

I did have plenty of knee room. I believe that the seat was all the way back because it was basically pushed against the back seat. However, either the seat didn't adjust when the car was off or I'm an idiot because I couldn't get it to move. The electric switch did nothing and there didn't seem to be an "adjust bar" in front of the seat.

As for the headroom, there isn't much more than you see in the pictures. That was one thing that struck me about the car. I actually hit my head on the roofline as I leaned over to get into the car. :bang:

 

6'1" and you bumped your head??? I'm 6'3" and shudder to think that I won't be able to get a SE because I can't fit in it. If the Mustang doesn't work out, I'll probably end up in a Vette or Lightning...

 

I didn't bump my head on the inside of the car, but on the outside of the car getting in.

Also, it wasn't really a function of poor car design, but me used to driving an F-350 that you climb up into as opposed to sitting down into it.

That said, at 6' 3", you won't have much head room on the inside. I'd recommend sitting in one before you decide though. Let's just say that I'm wearing a black baseball cap when those pictures were taken, and you can't even see it in the pictures.

 

For a while after the car is turned off, the accesories will continue to work...but eventually they will shutoff...I was lucky, it still had some juice when I sat in the seat, but when I came back an hour later, the seat was off

 

I will be attending the Drive in Orlando, Aug. 28th. Can't wait!
