I read somewhere that even though that Ford is increasing production of the Mustang for 2006 Model Year, nearly all the extra production is going towards the V6 Model, not the GT since if they upset the balance of V6 vs v8, they would be missing their CAFE requirements? Any truth to this?

If they increase the production but keep the ratio of GTs to V6s (roughly 35% to 65% respectively), then the total number of GTs produced will be proportionally higher.

From July issue of Mustang Enthusiast: "Stampeding Pony production......Ford has just the answer. They're going to make more Mustangs - 80,000 more than they did in 2004. According to Ford Division President Steve Lyons, "Sales are up more tha 45 percent over last year, and V-8 GT and convertible model demand is so strong that we haven't been able to build enough." Total production numbers for the 2005 Mustang should come in around 192,000 units -- a 70 percent increase over the 2004 model."

Since they're building 192,000, I bet there are whole lot more happy Mustang owners than there are unhappy potential owners.

192,000 is ok production numbers, but nothing to get excited about. 192K is a fraction of what the 64's sold, heck the Mustang II debuted with nearly 400,000 units produced in 74! Ford should build 400,000 05 stangs and lower prices to 12K for the V6 and 17K for the GT, they would sell every one of them!

Back in '64 or even '74, Ford wasn't facing the competition from foreign makes like they are now. Plus, coupes aren't as popular today as they were then. 192,000 in todays market is not a bad number at all.
