its better to compare the mustang GT to another modern day BIG 4 seater coupe....
hmm....the pontiac GTO?
hmm...mercedes CLK and CL?
hmm...bmw 6 series?

what else??

Exclamation Some Get It, Some Don't

I have been a Mustang fan since I got my first Mustang in May of 1964. I just bought my twelvth Mustang in September. Between Mustang number 11 and 12 I had 7 Corvettes, the most recent being a 1998 Coupe. The Corvette is a different machine altogether. My C5 had 310 rwhp, stock.

When I first saw the new Mustang in 2004 at the SEMA show, I wanted one (it was still in my blood). But the C5 was still killing 'em. In September, just three days before I was to enter the Silver State Classic Challenge, my C5 transmission took a dump (I saw it coming). Looking sad and dejected sitting on my sofa, my wife said, "You need to get a new car" This was better than Viagra. Here's the rub (no pun intended), $50,000 for a world class sports car of $28,000 for a Grand American Hot Rod. Couldn't justify the extra $22,000 for 100 horsepower.

These cars are different and shouldn't be compared. They get compared because GM doesn't have the Camero or TransAm and the Challenger is no longer. So magazines try to force a comparison.

I love my new GT and am very happy I bought it. But it's no C5, C5 Z06, C6 or C6 Z06. If you meet any of these and you are not supercharged, turboed or on nitrous, don't try.

My $.02 worth.

That will change in 24 months or so. And from all indications, the forthcoming Camaro and Challenger will spank the Mustang somethin fierce.

It's possible, still alot can be said for the look of our Mustangs. Blind fanboyism, maybe but until I see a full production model on a dealer lot I don't care what Chevy or dodge are bringing because all they keep showing is the concept cars, I know Ford did the same but if I am not mistaken if Chevy/Dodge were following the timing of the Mustang we would have already seen the near final production models.

There is alot to be said for the hype around the Camaro & Challenger but if the full production cars are too different from the concepts and are not seen as reasonable renditions then they will lose alot of their thunder. Also GM has stated "no more ugly cars" but until I see a fully realized clean Camaro I will have reservations about the car. Lets face it the last gen Camaro's were butt ugly oval boats with hideous hood attachments.

I couldn't have said it better. I sold my 2000 C5 when we had our baby, and got the 2007 GT so we could all cruise as a family, and we absolutely love it. My Vette was running in the 12's with just a CAI though, and with the heads & cam into the high 11's. Oh and I forgot to mention that was on the stock Goodyear runflats, which we referred to as runcraps, ha, ha.

That's probably true, too. Still, by the time the 2010 Mustang arrives in late '09 with the new, more powerful motor and IRS, it will be interesting to see how much of a price increase the Stang incurs as well.

I'm expecting the 2009/2010 Mustang GT / "Cobra" to still use a live-axle rear suspension after the 2008-2009 Camaro / Challenger IRS systems fail.

the new vettes r really fast....the z06, i got to take on for a good rip, and ohh baby was it something else...but the c6 is an impressive machine itself, it would walk us bad

Yeah, the stock C5 is lots of fun to play with.
I love the part where they floor it to get away and then don't.
The typical drivers must be thinking we have blowers or something ("can't be a stock Mustang").
