Merry Christmas all!!
did i mention even if the C6 was 0-60 in 2 sec and 1/4 mile in 10 sec. and top speed of 220 mph, i would still get a Mustang over it?

.... and one more spec:
The base C6 weighs in around 3,700 pounds. The C6 / Z06 is built on a completely different (and exclusive) assembly line, uses a composite material for the frames making it super light -- don't have details -- and does not share many parts with the base C6. It's weight is 3,112 pounds. With a rated 505 hp, you can see the potential here....

personally,
im fine with a C6 vette being the ULTIMATE usa performance car...
the new Stang GT is more of a muscular presence...a GT...a menacing beast floating down the road. a 4 seater with some trunk space...you can still do a nice road trip with your wife or girlfriend....its still very fast respectfully and thats good enough
vette C6...light weight....2 seater....all out performance car made to take on german and italian supercars....
Merry Christmas all!

The Z06 has a weight to power ratio almost half that at 6.5:1 (3112 lb + weight of driver / 505 hp). The GT500 is only about 8:1 (3900 lb + driver / 500 hp).
BTW
Fun fact #1: The GT500 weighs more than the 95-97 Crown Vic / Town Car / Grand Marquis (Panther platform) and weighs the same as the 98-02 Crown Vic / Town Car / Grand Marquis. The Panther uses a body-on-frame construction, live-axle rear suspension, cast iron block, 4-doors, and can seat 6 people. The 98-up Panther is only 3" wider than the S-197 GT but is about 3' longer.
Fun fact #2: The Daimler LX platform (Charger / 300 / Magnum) weighs about 200 lb more than the GT500, and on-par with the 2003-up Ford Panther platform. If you take a 4200 lb Charger SRT-8 and add a supercharger with some engine mods, you can get about 550 hp to yield a weight to power ratio less than the GT500 (about 7.5-7.7:1).
To sum it up, the GT500 needs to go on a serious diet!!!

I don't think any Vette has ever weighed 3,700lbs!

Mustang GT weight seems reasonable...
i believe the Mustang GT weighs less than the 350z and E46 M3...
that is pretty good!
not to digress from this thread.....C6 is still ultimate performance

Comparing the Vette and the Mustang is like comparing apples to oranges. The Vette is a true sports car, and the Mustang is a Pony/Muscle car. I guess you guys didn't see the Car & Driver issue where the tested the GT500 against the C6 (not even the Z06), and the C6 beat the GT500 in every performance category. Car & Driver only gave one nod to the GT500--it had a back seat, and of course the Vette doesn't. I sold my 2000 C5 when we had our baby for that very reason and ordered my 2007 Mustang. The Mustang is not even close to the C5 performance wise stock for stock, and the C6 has 55 more base horsepower (400hp) over my 2000 C5 (345hp). Unless you guys are heavily modified, there is no way a heavier car with 100 less horsepower can hang with a lighter car with 100 more horsepower. They are different cars, and I love my Mustang, but it is no Corvette performance wise. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

The Corvette is also significantly less practical than a Mustang GT. A guy I know has a Z06 and has to back into his driveway to prevent the air dam from scraping on his driveway due to the slope.
But Ford considers the Stang a sports car according to the window sticker "4 passenger sports car"
I believe the fastest time a magazine recorded for the GT500 was 12.2 in the 1/4, while Z06s were in the 11s bone stock?
I'm sure Ford wanted to keep the GT500 affordable ($43k for 500 hp is affordable by common standards) without using more "exotic" materials. I'm anxious to see the Challenger with the 392/6.4L V8. Will it weigh 4000+ lb or will Daimler use light-weight materials?
Make no mistake, I really like the S-197 GT and probably would not buy a Vette, Z06, GT500, or 392 Hemi Challenger due to the cost of those vehicles. I was complaining about the X-Plan price for the Stripper S-197 GT!

Bone stock C6s will hit 60 in 4.2 or 4.3 seconds (depending upon the driver). Even the GT500 is no match for a stock C6 Vette.
Apples to oranges indeed; completely different cars.

I don't know about this vid but they say a vortech s/c mustang will do 0-60 in 3.6 second's. Is this all I need to take a c6. Check it out

latest R&T compares GT500, GT/cs to C6 and z06
the results are that the GT500 compares to the C6 and the z06 blows it away...
again...who cares! Stang is a different car....has different more REAL world advantages...its not all about speed and handling...
how bout a nice cruise....chilled out drive around town....
i think the Mustang wins!!

I wouldn't be too disappointed if a car that costs about 2x the price of a Mustang GT outperforms it most categories. The C6 corvette looks as sexy as any Italian sports car. I'm a car enthusiast at heart, and I love Corvettes, and Mustangs and I'll add Camaros to the list when GM brings out the new one. They are all great cars at thier price and performance points, and I turn my head to look at every one on the road.

Supercharger will make it a driver's race, at least in a straight line.
As far as in the twisties, I don't think you will be able to keep up with a new vette no matter what mods you do.
