I'm venting here...am I the only one?
Just thought I would post to vent a bit. Twice now, my boss has given me a hard time about my ride. I do "outside sales" for the End User Market of my company (Low voltage system integration, such as Surveillance equipment, Fire Alarm, Intrusion, Pro Audio System, etc...) My customer base is all commercial, and covers a 100 mile radius of my town. He has stated that my car may be a detriment while working. It is required that I drive my personal car for work, and I am reimbursed mileage. First, let me state that I exceeded sales quota last year while driving it. He brought this new idea forward duing my review that it looked "like a show car" and that I should not add anything additional to the exterior. Yesterday, he said that it was too loud and that I needed to "watch it" when pulling out because it was too loud and would give negative aspect to customers...
I was never told that there would be "stipulations" to my personal vehicle other than it must have insurance and I would be responsibile for all maintanence issues. I suggested that if he felt that my personal vehicle would be "inapproprate" for work, that the Company provide me with a vehicle (not that I think this would happen, but seemed a solution).
I'm sure you all are with me on the aspect that my car is an important part of my life, and I enjoy every day I get behind with wheel. I do keep it clean and looking good but it is my hobby now and I dislike the idea that I do not have the option to add or do whatever I wish to my ride...
Ok...end vent. Thanks for listening...

If you are required to drive your personal vehicle for business use, they should be paying your mileage AND insurance. Also their only legitimate concern should be your vehicle's reliability, not looks, etc.
Sounds like a control freak to me......

I say try to be quiet when entering and leaving parking lots and when ever you think your boss might be around, but beyond that hey its your car do what you want with it. I think most customers will either say nice car or nothing at all about it. I highly dobt they will ever complain about it unless your tareing up their parking lot

Worked in Personnel/HR for 30 years before retiring. Unfortunately this kind of BS exists. Had one boss who didn't think my Escort was "fancy" enough - should had seen his face when I got a pickup. The sad thing is that these kind of people can make your life miserable - hopefully this person will "self-destruct" before he runs your and/or others out of the place

I love drive the stang to go give bids, But im in the construction buisness, so they expect to see a truck, and not a beater either! I hate having to drive the truck for estimates, at 10-14 mpg its a waste. But hey you have to keep up appearances. If you arnt dropping the hammer, and leaving black marks and rattling the windows. Make your money, your making His! Tell him when your not selling and hes not making money or he buys your ride, leave you alone.

Your Boss sounds like a Chevy lover.
Too loud?? If you were driving my car, he'd fire you on the spot.

If your boss has that big of a problem with it tell him that the company can provide you with a car for business use. Have any customers ever complained to you about it? Has your boss said some have complained? If he said they have, I'd still want to see proof (in writing) and would then still ask the customer what the issue was. Would he prefer you drove a BMW or something deemed more "professional"? I know if my boss made those comments to me I'd tell him to bend over so I could drive my car up his .........

That's as bad as him telling you your car isn't nice enough and you should by a _______. This guys a hoser. That's your personal vehicle that they are requiring you to drive and depreciate for their gain with some modest reimbursement. If he doesn't like it he can provide another vehicle, otherwise your sales speak for themselves.

Shoot, if it was me, seeing your car would help you sell stuff to me! Your boss is an @$$. Especially if you're over your quota, he shouldnt have a problem with it.

Sounds like he needs some relaxation techniques that Governor Spitzer used (ha!) This guy sounds like a real turd. You can drive whatever you want. He sounds jealous to me. If the company wants you to drive something else ask them to lease a vehicle for you. I am just amazed at the number of jealous people out there.
