I'm giddy...

Like a little school girl waiting for her first date, I am giddy with anticipation. I got a call this weekend saying that there is an extra spot in a private party to go and run my car at Willow Springs.

Now there is obviously things I need to get done to my car before we go, like a retune, and I need to clean my intake filter...to name a few. I have never been to something like this before, and I was wondering what I need/should do to get ready for this. I was told that a helmet is a must, but what else?

I need comments and I want to know what to expect. Thanks.

Thanks, I plan on it.

I am also concerned with the heat. It's been hot lately and was wondering if this is something I should be worried about and what can I do to prevent any problems?

Dave, at a minimum I would flush & bleed the brake fluid with fresh Ford DOT 3 and upgrade the front pads with some Hawk HPS or the equivalent.

You'll probably need an SA2000 approved helmet (motorcycle helmet will NOT meet the requirements).

Start out with about 42-45 lbs. air pressure in the tires and adjust from there. You want to keep the tire from rolling over on the sidewall when cornering.

Someone posted some good information regarding "open-tracking" the '05 a while back so you might want to do a search.

Thanks for the reply.

My brakes were already upgraded, pads and slotted/drilled rotors. I should be able to pick up the fluid at the dealership, right?

Do they usually have a shop or something at the track so I could fill/relieve some air from my tires, if needed?

I tried searching but will give it another try. Thanks Rick.

Your local Ford store should have the fluid in stock.

Amenities will vary from track to track. You might ask someone who is familiar with the facility to see what they have. You could also pick up an inexpensive 12V air compressor to take along.

I also tried searching...couldn't find it either. Maybe the thread was lost in the forum changeover.

Have a great time at the track!!!
