A question to all 05 owners. I just visited my 05 at the dealer, I started her up and she idled up to 2,000rpm then slowly came down to 1,100-1,200rpm. Yes the car is cold but still that seems unusual. It seems a bit high. Any thoughts?

Also when I shut her off there seemed to be a slight clunk when I turned her off. I thought it was my imagination and my friend thoght so too, so I starter her up again and it did the same thing when I shut her off. It seems the timing is a bit off or something. I told the dealer to check it out. Anyone else have this problem?

Same here... also when i am driving around then come... say out of first or second to turn or slow down... and put it in neutral(spelling)... it stays at a high rpm for longer than i think it should...?? way longer than i think it should.

Computer controlled idle...it takes it a while to "learn" the correct idle. You can also reset the idle speed, procedure is in the owners manual.

After I hit about 2500 miles it stopped holding the throttle open so long when I let off the gas...darn throttle by wire. It still does not decelerate when you let off the pedal like any every car I have ever driven, in gear or out. Just coasts right along...

Doesn't sound like the greatest setup for autocrossing

I have the same problem when taking it out of second into neutral to coast. The RPMs rev up way too high.

On my '03 GT the RPM's seem to take too long to come down.
It's done it since day one. Has 15K miles now and still does it.
Neither of my '88's were like that.

I started mine this morning (18 degrees) Talk about high idle when it's cold! Snow must be coming soon.....then 4 months till I drive again.

Mine does the high idle thing too, starting at ~2000 RPM and ramping down to ~700 after a minute or so. It has about 700 miles on it so far.

My '93 Probe GT does the same thing. Maybe does it to heat the engine up to a better temp faster? Dunno...its great for getting the heater running faster though...lol

I'm not a service tech....My car is exactly as above, but I'm certain it is computer controlled related to reduced emmisions and is "Normal".

My 02 does the same thing. In fact when I first got it, I took it in, they replaced the throttle control cable thingy, and it still did it. Then I drove another one and it did it too, so I assumed it was normal. I have gotten used to it, but still dont like it. Thats why I ordered an automatic this time. (Hope it dont do that in the auto).

The high idle hanging is great when you have to room to get on it hard, bring rpms up to 4500, then shift... nice and smoooooth. But city driving cant do that often enough to justify it always hanging high...making shifts jerky... my opinion...

I put an orifice in the idle air circuit of my '04 GT to get the engine RPM to drop faster. I don't know if the new system uses a seperate idle air control or if it does all airflow management with the throttle body stepper motor. Anyody know?

My Cobra has done that for years on start up .... I would classify this as normal ...

I agree from a "racing" point of view..............it is going cause understeer if you cannot transfer a lot of weight to the front when you want to corner hard........ I take it the cobra will be back to normal throttle linkages?? (or tweak the computer...)

Oh yeah! It sure does sound good! Mine is just high when you start it, but it goes down relatively quick. Its got about 500 miles on it.

yeah... what Bullittman said.... when you go to neutral, it kicks up the rpms to burn any unspent fuel..... it's an emissions thing, and it's normal.
