Well, I've had the car for a week now and today this lady rear-ends me at the light.

Did they make the car too attractive? Was she just mezmerized? Who knows?

I've never had to deal with insurance repairs so any suggestions as to who should or should not fix my car would be greatly appreciated.

OMG!!!

I am not sure how it works in Ohio, but here in CA you just contact the other drivers insurance company. Report the accident, they send an adjuster who takes pics etc. Then they give you a list of certified shops to do the repairs, take it in to them. They will cut you a check for the body shops estimate, and one for the estimated rental, and voila' all set. When I got t-boned in hubby's Durango, it was actually very hassle free.

I am so sorry to see your baby hurt... hopefully it wont be long before you get her back all healed up!

OWW.

You have the right to have the repairs done at any shop you want. Since your car is Black, find a body shop that has a REAL GOOD painter. Dayton must have a Mustang club. If it does contact them they might give you some leads as to which shops can be trusted. Oh yeah, since it is a new car make sure they use only genuine new FORD parts

Up here, you contact your own company and they deal with the other underwriter, determine liability, set up estimates. Use choose any shop yoo want, and the shop bills the underwriters directly, minus any deductable if needed. This works well in case hidden damage is found after repairs are started.

My new stang is on hold now. Due to me rearending a Mazda at the lights yeaterday.

That's unbelievable Truly feel sorry for you. Looks like you need a rear bumper and repair time on your rear body panel. Don't worry about the paint match, black is the easiest, especially on a new car. Just remember, it could've been worse, I know that doesn't make things better. If the other person has insurance, go through them and they should take care of everything. Hopefully they'll treat you well. You don't have to take it to a shop that they recommend, you can, just make sure it's one that does good work and gives a lifetime guarantee.

Oh no, that stinks. Geez, you would have thought they made the brake lights big enough.

The insurance co. is going to ask you to get maybe 3 estimates, then they will cut you a check for the lowest estimate. But, by law you only need one estimate from the place you want your car fixed. Like posted above i would get a hold of the mustang club in your area. Just do a little research, and everything should be fine.

DANG! That hurts to look at. I tell ya, what a rotten thing to have happen. So sorry. Make sure you find a good place. Ask around, get recommendations. Often your insurance company can recommend reliable, talented shops.

Good luck.

Do yourself a favor and maybe talk to someone (attorney) about suing for loss of value. Your car will most likely carry an accident history on carfax (they check police reports). This car's resale value will drop dramatically with the bad carfax report. Something to consider.

Thanks everyone, we did swap insurance info and she was very nice and apologetic. I know things like this happen, I just hoped I wouldn't be so soon.

Many thanks for all the repair info.

What will this do to the value of my car now that it has been wrecked?

Aww, I'm really sorry about your stang. She was probably struck by the beauty and was attracted like a fly to a bug zapper. That's anyone's worst nightmare. Just make sure you get a good bodyshop to have your work done at.

I live in Ohio also that &@%$# better stay away from me!

She was in a Chevy Avalanche. I'm not sure how fast, I wasn't looking behind me, couldn't have been too fast, maybe 15mph.

Did you do a brake upgrade ? Maybe she just couldn't stop as fast as you. Not to twist it around or blaim anyone, but it pays to keep an eye on your rear view mirror as most (not all) accidents can be avoided. A word to the wise.

No, I was stopped at the light for maybe 30 seconds before I was hit.
Unless she had an unusually slow reaction time.

I got hit the same way at a light once. When I saw them starting to lose it on the slick street I considered running the light, but by then they already hit me. I was only driving a Toyota so didn't matter very much.

Actually, I have also been hit like this before, about 12 years ago, I was also in a crappy Toyota. That lady was obviously drunk and she fled the scene.

Sooo sorry....looking at that picture HURTS... just be sure that when you take it in for repair that the person who hit you's insurance company PAYS for your rental car and make sure that you find a rental company that can provide you with an 05 Stang to drive while your baby is being fixed. Good Luck.
