I need a new water pump

I took my car into the dealer because I’ve been finding a small puddle of water/coolant on my garage floor. I thought maybe it was a loose clamp or overfill problem. Here it turns out I need a new water pump.

Has anyone else experienced this problem yet?

I am just trying to find out if this is a fluke or something to worry about in the future.

Car has 24,000 miles on it.

I can't recall seeing anything before about water pump issues. I think this is a first.

Even then, I would say screw it. Ill take care of it myself. Maybe talk the dealership into giving you something else in place of the water pump. Example toss in the 07 plenum cover and we'll call it even.

I would keep the mechanical pump. The last thing you need is an electric water pump that breaks down in the middle of nowhere (seized electric motor). At least with a mechanical pump, they tend to make noises or seep coolant out of the weep hole before they totally fail.
