I called AAI today

For your information Grantsdale.
The past week I have talked to my dealer 3 times. I stoped in twice because I was in the area and I called once.
The reason I started to do this:
I was told my car had ETA of 10/4. So, naturally, I'm going in inquire. Then I'm told Its on hold, but no one knows why. My dealer says its been fixed and is on a truck, on its way. That was last week.
Now no one seems to know if its been shipped or if it hasn't. No ones knows if its been fixed or if it hasn't. If you were dealing with a person that tells you theyll call you with updates, but you don't hear from them in a week, you'd check in too.
And heres the thing, the 3 times I contacted them in the past week, I've gotten new info every time. So much for them contacting me as soon as they have new info.
My dealer is my dealer because he's sold my family lots of cars. He's old. He should be retired. He works Monday-Thursday, 8-12. So basically, if I want specific infom that's the chances I get to talk to him. If I go in there when he's gonethe sales manager talks to me. He knows somewhat what's up, but only if my dealer tells him. My dealer is not much of a help in this process. I had to push him to finally make a phone call and see where my car was. He didn't do it himself.
If I want my car before winter, I need to push my dealer, so he pushes Ford for info and maybe some action.
Its all I ask. I''m paying the guy, he can help me out when I ask. Its 5 minutes out of his "busy" schedule to keep an excited customer updated.

Part of the reason they can't track them like a ten dollar package is the fact that 3 or more companies handle the vehicle. The plant builds it, the train company ships it to a hub, the car carrier delivers it. If fed ex ships it, hands it to ups and then has the post office bring it to your door, it would be impossible to track as weel
The other reason Ford doesn't put that much effort into it is that usually nobody really cares. This is the rare exception that alot have been pre-ordered. Usually it is the dealer waiting on stock inventory and for us it's more of a "when it gets here, it gets here" thing. We really aren't that concerned if the stock Focus LX stick gets here today or next week.

Maybe explains why FedEx is becoming a powerhouse and Ford is loosing market share.
Customer consideration... hmm.

Listen, I dont want to know the exact latitude and longitude of my car every seocnd of the day.
What i want to know is Where is it, where has it been, and why isnt it here.
These should be simple things to process. It doesnt even have to be updated that day, but at elast within two or three. All they have to do is type in what? 4 numebrs at the end of a vin and they could update its position.
When no one can even look up where my car is when I ask, I scratch my head.

It wouldn't even be as hard as typing in numbers with it's position - they already have all the information in the computers - when it's going to be scheduled etc.. all they need to do is x-ref that info with what parts are available and where it was last scanned. (Please tell me it's computer controlled where on the line it is and what components it's receiving - don't want my Black GT with Red Seats coming out as a White V6 with cloth!).
Either Ford doesn't care that their dealers don't know jack or they have a serious IT problem on their hands (That I would gladly work out if they compensate well!)

Three times in a week is way, way too much. You are buying a car, not marrying the salesman. He doesn't know where the car is. He only knows what Ford tells him. There is no one to call, as you stated before, that can tell you where your specific car is. You have this website, on which you should have learned that there are two holds that occured, both a quality hold and a IUP hold.
As was said previously: not many cars are preordered. Not many cars are ordered, period. This is not an every day occurance. Dealers are always saying "6-8 weeks" for delivery, and thats the best you can get. 6-8 weeks from the start of production is the end of this month. And thats if you ordered early enough to get your car built right at the beginning.
Listen, I understand you want your car. I feel for you. But there is nothing you, or anyone else, can do about it til your car shows up. There is no point to get yourself, your dealer, the people on this board, the people at AAI, and whoever else mad at you about the status. Nothing can be done. Sit back, relax, and wait. How much difference does it make, really, if you get your car tomorrow or in 10 days?

Pretty funny stuff. I'll admit that I inquire about once a week with the dealer to see where my future baby is...
They also have a website where you can see (very broadly) where the thing is. It is really rudimentary compared to the Chrysler equivalent site, which can track production stages, and for some reason the dealer can get better information.
People in the military here have either a 4 hour train ride to pick up vehicles at port, or extra charges if they wait for customs/delivery/etc, you can save up to a week by going and getting it, and I plan to, if I'm not deployed somewhere....
Volvo used to have a program where they put you up in a hotel in Stockholm or whereever, you picked up your new car from the factory, and drove it back to Germany to break it in. Special deals on ferry prices and everything, it was really classy, according to the people I knew who did it. THAT's SERVICE.
With Wall-Mart RFIDing shipping crates, there is no reason why you CAN'T track the movements of a car being shipped, (ever heard of LOJACK??)
If enough of you ask, they will implement, but normally it really doesn't matter. I would love to know how many recent cars have had a 14% preorder rate, my guess would be not many.

I think I gave you the same "wait patiently" advice when you were new here [/QUOTE]
I am growing to have the patience of a saint I have learned most interesting things here for which I am most greatful.
Six more months to go! And I know UP FRONT my car won't be home for 3 months when I order, I am getting all that anxiety out before I order it.
Ok- Dj07- Correct me if I am wrong, but you want the car to quote "get chicks" right? Well do they not like you now? Will a car really matter so much in the long run? Will it matter if its here today tomorrow or next week? I know you think it does, but trust me really.....

Does the car disappear during the winter or something? Will it not be there come spring? I think you do need some drugs ... or a drink at least ... calm down ... you are going to hurt yourself.
