First off I would like to give you a little background. Since I was a child, around the age of 7 or so, I have always wanted to have a sports car. I don't know what is about them, but I have always dreamed of having a sports car of my own. Growing up I was never afforded the luxury of being able to get one due to my dad not having a job and me not being able to make enough money on low paying high school jobs.

Fast forward quite a few years to the present where I am 23. By now I have completed my undergrad and masters in accounting, and a lot of what got me through it was the dream of one day having my own sports car. In June, a month after I graduated, I decided to take the plunge and place an order for a 06 Mustang GT.

The ERL lady has just told me that my 06 5 speed Satin Silver Mustang GT is to be built on September 11th. I don't even know what to say. It seems so surreal. I have dreamed of having my own sports car for so long, and I now have no idea of what is going to be like. It isn't even that I am extremely unpatient about waiting now, it is just that I am in total shock that my dreams are about to come true.

Does anyone else have any similiar stories?

I am sorry for making this post so long. Thanks again to everyone for all the great posts. Many times just reading posts on this site ease my craving for having Mustang.

BTW - This will also be my first American car. For some reason my family loves boring Japanese cars, such as Accords and Camry's.

Congrats!

I have a little blurb about the stang. I must have been around 11 or 12 when my dad bought a used 85 Red 5.0 Mustang GT. He even let me take it for a spin around a trucking warehouse with a big parking lot once. It was the first manual and first car I ever drove. He mentioned once that when I get my license, he'd let me have the car. Well, eventually that car was traded in and no 5.0 for me.

My first car was an 83 Honda Accord. Not bad for a 17year old. I put in a LOUD audio system and threw on a nice set of rims+tires that I got a great deal on. Eventually I wanted something different, so I traded in for an 86 Camaro V6. Couldn't afford the V8. That thing was a junker.

I ended up getting a really good job when I was 20, so making good money it was time to upgrade! My stepmom worked at a dealership that had a 96(I think) used Mystic Cobra Mustang. I took it for a test drive and loved it! We checked the payments and everything was going great.... until the insurance. My insurance would've been more that the car payment!

So... being down about not getting my Stang, I settled on a Camry. I planned on throwing on some rims and hooking it up like my old Accord. Well that lasted about a year, lol. I traded that in for a black 97 Tacoma extended cab. Great truck. Traded that in for an 02 Xterra. It was nice.

Then came the 05 Mustang prototype. ! Knew it would be mine! Watched it develope into the 05 production model while I sat on the fence whether to pay off the Xterra and then get a new Stang, or to just trade it in. Meanwhile the 05 was released. Then I waited on hearing about the GT500. I decided it wasn't practical. I made my mind up that I'd just trade the xterra in and order an 06.

On 6/3/05 I ordered my 2006 Redfire GT. On 8/26/05 after waiting some 17 or so years I finally got my mustang! Just thought I'd share my little stang story. Hope I didn't bore ya too much!

My first ride in a Mustang happened when I was six or seven years old. My Father had purchased a new red 1966 convertible with the 200CID 6 and 3 speed on the floor.

The bucket seats hurt my Mom's hip (which had been injured years before in an accident) so he traded it in for a 1966 Fairlane 500 convertible. V8 and automatic. My first Mustang experience was so short!

Fast forward to my senior year in high school (1976), when I found a 1969 Mustang Grandé coupe for sale. Bought it and drove it for ten years. Finally I had my own Mustang! By the time I tearfully let it go in 1986, it had 261,000 miles on it.

I followed up with three Fox Mustangs. All were 2.3L 4's (so my driving record could recover from the wretched excess of the 302 in the '69!)

None of them were as exciting as the '69 was. But they were terrific, reliable cars - with A/C! I did not miss melting into a sweaty puddle in July and August heat, the way I often did in the black tar pit that was the '69's un-airconditioned interior. (Why did someone order a new Grandé in 1969 with no A/C??)

My dream Mustang always had three ingredients: the V8, manual transmission, and a top that folded down. I had owned, or at least experienced them all, but never all in one car.

In about a week or so, that will finally change. It will also mark the end of a four-year break in Mustang ownership - the only time in my driving days I have not owned and driven a Mustang. The break happened when I let my bride get the car she would like to have. She was ready to have an automatic for a change (the Foxes were all manuals). She wanted a car where she did not have to contort herself, or get out in order for someone to get in the back seat. So we compromised. Our Intrepid R/T gave her an auto and 4 doors. I got more horses with the Magnum V6, a sunroof, and the autostick to do some shfting on my own.

It is a great car. We both really enjoy it. But it is not a Mustang.

Just a few more days now. . .

I can relate. My first Mustang was a 1986 LX which served as a college car in the early 90's. After that, I bought my first new car when I graduated college in 94 - a 1994 Plymouth Duster 3.0L. It was a fun car, but no muscle car. Since that time, I've owned a 2001 Z24, 2002 Mazda B3000, and now a 2003 Protege5 which will be sold or traded for the new Mustang on order.

I've been keeping the wife in SUV's to haul kids around safely and such, so have always been conservative on my car(s). I have always dreamed of owning a V8 Mustang since my high school days when a buddy of mine was allowed to borrow his parents brand new 1987 Mustang LX 5.0 for some "cruising". The torque was more than amazing! It was a 5-speed which could light up first thru third and bark fourth.

Anyway, my time is now and this is what is on order:

2006 Mustang GT Premium Legend Lime Coupe
Dark Charcoal Interior
Active Alarm
IUP
5-Speed Manual

Here's my college stang I was quite proud of:

Nope, kinda the opposite for me. My family is an import family, I had never even considered getting a domestic. My mom bought me a used Prelude when I was in college. It was a sporty car, kinda fun. After 6 years of problems and very uncomfortable ride quality, I had my heart set on a comfortable luxury car. I just couldn't get away from my love of power, so I was looking at the G35 Coupe. The BMW 3 series, Audi A4, Acura TL, Lexus IS300 were all way too weak for my tastes.

Out of the blue one day, I walked across the street to test drive the 2005 Mustang GT. Long story, blah blah, I had to go to a different dealer to test drive. I fell in love and made a deposit for an 06 after the test drive...=)

I ended up buying an 05 off a lot somewhere else (couldn't wait). All my friends and family were shocked when they found out that I got an American muscle car, but after seeing me in, they all think it is a *perfect* fit for me. I couldn't agree more, I can't see myself driving anything else.

i dont remember how exactly i fell in love with mustangs. no one in my family ever owned one while i was alive (though my aunt had an 83 GLX 5.0 VERT!!! TRIPLE RED!!!! GAHH she GEAVE IT AWAY before i was born. when i found out about it i was like I WOULD HAVE PAID YOU FORTHAT CAR) anyhoo i do remember as far off as being a 12 year old and staring at the new edge mustangs on the dealer lots. i started saving EVERYTHING i got, and decided im gonna buy a classic stang. in between there was a stage where i knew nothing of the motor and i just wanted a bodykit and a spoiler, but the rice gave way as i learned about old school muscle. my first encounter with the 05 was actually on this site! i was building up a stockpile of pics of classic stangs. i was making a poster saying "look, its my future car. donate to this worthy cuase now" for my bedroom door. wheni saw the concept it was love at first sight!!! (or site, considering it was my first visit to TMS) acutally, lol, i remember when my savings ammassed to $1800 and i think i emailed brad asking for where i could find a good fixer upper classic stang. thanks brfad, you introduced me to eBay. my parents want to kill you twice over now. i lurked the forums for all ove three days before i joined about a year ago. aslo a bout that time, maybe a bit before, my first IN PERSON mustang exp. i went to the dealership to see if they had 05s. i was hoping and hoping.... and what do i find? nada. but wait! look! over there! A BRAND SPANKIN NEW 2004 MYSTICHROME COBRA COUPE. omg, i wanted that car. but obviously $40K was waaay out of reach for a wide eyed 14 year old lol. i was determined to have it. i was saving for my down payment and whatdya know? someon bought it. i remember it vert clearyyl, asi drove by the dealership every day on the way to school.. that fateful day it was gone. i almostg died!!! but wat? theres an 05!!!! WOOOOT i was so excited...again.
by this time i had learned that a new car was out of the Q. i looked around, and found this site, craigslist. god bless craig and his list :worship: after MONTHS of seraching and visiting cars there and in the paper, i found my baby, the 1976 cobra II V6 4speed i have now. its the underdog of the mustang world, and i loved it (heck, im a niner fan!)

the entire way my parents begged me to stop looking at these "junkers" and let them buy me a 99ish GT or V6 or something. bah! i see those everyday. time to be ubnique, as i always am. i just had to have it my way. along the way EVERYONE doubted me. my friends my family, my parents. HA! in their faces!!!

thats my mustang story. and it aint over yet. this II will one day be revered by all....

edit: forgot to add, no one in my family drives american anymore. all their fords and plymouths and that one caddy from the 80s are gone (except my cousins Tbird, which is about to die) everyone has/wants a toyota a bimmer, a mercedes a mazda and such. i've taken it into my own hands to brainwash every family member younger than me to like american cars, especially fords. hehehe

When I was 7, my dad got a 1969 427 Corvette Stingray Convertible. The moment I saw that car, I was in love with sports cars, especially verts. I have always wanted one. When I got my license, I got handed down a 1989 F-150 with 200k miles on it. I still drive it today. This past summer I was looking at sports cars in my price range and the Cobalt looked very appealing to me. I was about to get a SS Cobalt, but my dad told me to check out the new Mustang. I didn't even think of getting a mustang. I was never a big fan of mustangs but, I fell in love with the 2005s but figured it was out of my price range. I went down to the dealer and test drove it and placed my order that day. I've been so excited since I placed that order and can't wait for it to come.

Apparently I've wanted a Mustang since before I could talk... And my first word was "giddyup"... I'm 23 as well (unfortunately, I've been less than thrilled with school, congrats on that! ) and my dream came true 4 days before my 23rd birthday last fall.

Thanks for all the great stories! It is nice to hear about other people's experiences and passion for sports cars and Mustangs.

BTW - I placed my order for my mustang gt in June at X-plan price. I was the first 06 on order from my dealer.

congrats, venom800!!

i hope you enjoy your mustang experience. my first memory of liking mustangs was when i got a hotwheels ('81/'82) die cast mustang. then my friend's mom got an '82 hatchback -though not a v-8 - i thought it was the greatest. i liked them even more when i saw a road test for the '87 gt vs. the iroc... i was just getting into cars then, started a list in my head about sports cars i would like to own at least once in my life. a v-8 powered mustang was one of them. in 2001 i got a '88 5.0 lx coupe. i looked for any excuse to drive. one thing i figured out is the mustang isn't a sports car, a sporty car yes but, not a full on sports car. i'm not dissing the mustang, it can be made to perform w/ the right parts - in fact, i think that is the most appealing part of mustang ownership - no other car i can think of makes a more perfect "blank canvas". just look at what shelby did with the gt 350 and what the fr500c's are doing today. anyways, just glad to know your disbelief is of the positive kind. give this guy more nanners.

Congrats venom! I had an 05 on order back in November but had to cancel it due to losing my job. Hopefully by some miracle, I can eventually get my dream car
