Hello. The other day, a co-worker was claiming that if only Ford would have used a hydraulic clutch instead of the stiff cable one on the 05's, he may have purchased the car.

I claimed that I believed they were hydraulic clutches, but I can't find proof anywhere on the site. Can anyone direct me to a fact sheet or confirm the clutches are hydraulic on the 05+ GT and V6 manuals? Thanks.

 

You can look underneath the car and see if there is a hydraulic slave cylinder attached or close to the bell housing or check to see if there is a clutch cable. It should be easy.

 

From the workshop manual:

"The clutch operating mechanism consists of the following components:

Flywheel
Clutch disc
Clutch pressure plate
Clutch release bearing
Clutch master cylinder
Clutch slave cylinder
The clutch master cylinder transmits fluid pressure to the clutch slave cylinder, which in turn moves the clutch release bearing. The clutch hydraulic system uses brake fluid and shares a reservoir with the brake system."

Drive it and you can tell right of way. I finally got to drive a GT stick last weekend and confirmed that I am glad I ordered the slushbox. The hydraulic clutch provides very little feedback as compared to the older mechanical setup. I could never feel the clutch engage. It was almost a suprise every time we moved out at a light. Reminded me of my 1990 Miata.

 

It has this system in it ,my S-10 5 speed has this and I have never had a problem with it in 14 years of driving this truck so it should be good for the mustang.
