What type of supercharger could you put on the 05 V6 and how much would that run? Plus, does it effect insurance? Thanks.

Once kits get designed, expect prices to be about $2000 for a 5psi non-polished supercharger, a basic kit. Prices could top out in the $3500-4000 range for higher-boost kits that are polished. Brands available will be similar as to whats available today. Maybe KenneBell will make one for the V6 this time.

While the V6 will most likely be able to take some good boost, I would expect to only see kits for the V8 at first, since this is the car people will be wanting to tune,or mod first. V6 buyers are usually more cost concious people, or drivers that need a daily driver, so aftermarket companies don't usually consider the lower/smaller hp engines a priority.

Not trying to bust your bubble, but if your are wanting the V6, expect to wait a year or so for power adders to be developed and released.

Not to be critical, but if you want to pay for the supercharger, why not put the money into buying a V-8. That will get you an extra 100 hp without modifications.

Because the insurance is insane for the V8. The premiums would be close to the actual car payment. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing more I like than the growl of the V8, but its just not economically viable.

Insurance won't be to bad. My truck insurance is higher than my 95 Z28 convertible was. You'll have to report that supercharger to your insurance company anyway, or face a big problem if your ever in a wreck.

I see you are driving an Explorer now anyway...I bet your insurance is GRREAAAAT!

Seriously though, just go to progressive.com or something similar and get insurance quotes on an '04, one for a v6 and one for the v8 and see what the difference actually is.

Was your Z full coverage?

Good license or not, GTs are nearly twice as much as coupes for people under 25

I'm guessing Whipple will probably be the first out with a supercharger...but thats just a guess...I recall that they were the first to design an SC for the Expedition

Yes it was fully covered, but I'm not under 25. It had something to do with the damage factor thing.

Don't forget marriage is a factor in insurance. I got married at 29 and called my insurance after the honeymoon. It went down a little, but not as much as when I turned 25.

Kev, depends on where your from I'm guessing...
As all states are different in law and insurance...just as how all provinces are different.

BC here has apparently a GREAT way to deal with insurance.
I have to look into it.

With me under 25 (22 when I got the stang)
it was only 500 more for the GT...(500 canadian)

3000 - 3500
at that time, an extra paycheck to cover the cost...and an extra 2 months salary to cover the difference in car....shoulda had a v8

I would definitely get a solid insurance quote before I chose a V6.

By the time you supercharge and add all kinds of visual goodies to make it look like a GT, you will spend more time and money than just buying one.

Another thing, the minute you slap that s/c on the V6, kiss the warranty goodbye if you blow the motor up.

Sounds about close. I guess the exact amount depends on age, location, claim history, ect ....

Keep in mind the rates I am about to list were with my father as the primary owner. Thankfully I sold the V6 last year and I turn 25 next year. This is with a clean record, 3.9 College GPA, and a driving class credit in PA.

1999 V6 coupe - 1790.00 a year
2002 Gt vert - 2900.00 a year (though they just added a 250 dollar or so "performance car fee".)

If the cost to insure is keeping you out of the V8 I would reccomend just waiting until you can afford the car you really want. I wouldn't buy the V6 now only to blow 5K next year on a blower to make it a little faster and risk damage and losing the warrenty. Just wait it out and get a bigger downpayment on the car. By then I wouldn't be surprised to see dealers handing out rebates as well.
