How much weight can be shaved off the new 05?

Back in the ole days of the www.cyberstangs.com meetings our funny guy member Matt "the Mechanic" used to remove his antenna, wiperblades and floormats before he raced, all in the name of weight reduction LOL
A lot of beers later we envisioned him standing on a chassis with just an engine, gearbox and a steering wheel. All the other parts we basically "overrated" as he would call them. Darn we had some fun back then

[/b][/quote]I agree, unless you are extremely hard-core, add power instead of dropping weight. 3470lbs is pretty good IMO for a bigger car vs. the Mach 1. When you start talking about light weight this and that, you're probably waisting more money on less speed than if you spent the equivalent amount on bolt-ons etc...

Fill the interior with helium, or hydrogen if helium is not readily available. Use duct tape to seal up the inside, and dont smoke in car during this process. Build a breathing tube into the design so you dont get ill. Should lighten the car up for you.

I'm sure there is going to be a good amount of weight the casn be taken off. But just like adding hp. It's going to be expensive. Unless you can do it yourself. Like for instance.
Carbon Fiber hood, trunklid, doorshells, fenders, seat shell
Aluminum or titanium to replace any fasteners.
But once again it won't be cheap.
I believe the last SEMA show had a dodge neon that the replaced all body panels with Carbon fiber. Saved something like 400 lb (Could have been more but I don't remember). But I wouldn't want to guess the price tag.

I was actually joking with a friend the other day about how we should tease the ricer guys that he works with, and tell them to inflate their tires with helium and put little air bladders with helium in all the open spaces, because we saw a guy win that way. EDIT: I was thinking of printing a picture of side impact airbags to support my story.

Forget shaving off a few pounds with lighter car parts. The most critical thing I can do to make my new 'stang faster is NEVER DRIVE IT MYSELF! I will have to hire a jockey to drive it. All I can do is watch.

Kev - that could quite possibly be the funniest thing I've ever read.
Personall, my favorite part is the line "Chicks dig convertibles"...you just knew where they were going with that one.
