You don't have to wait to floor them. They run some of them up at the factory anyway, at least at the Corvette plant, which is the only plant I have toured. The only thing you need to do when breaking in a car is not keep it at a constant RPM for extended periods of time, like in long highway driving.

From what I've heard, it's a good idea to wait 1000 miles or so for the engine to break in. This allows everything to slowly mate with the other parts, such as the rings and cylinder walls. For those first 1000 miles, vary the engine speed, but try not to get above 5000 rpm.

Just what I've heard, though...it's your car, your call. I'd search around for some reputable sources (Click & Clack, etc.).

Owners Manual says:

For the 1st 1,000 miles run the car at different speeds/rpms to break the engine in. It moves all the parts at different velocities.

I'll be driving mine about 20 miles first. That's about the distance from my dealer to the end of my court. Then I'll light 'em up and all the neighbors will be saying "Oh No Steve's Got His Car. There Goes The Peace And Quiet In The Neighborhood".

LOL That's right. The guy across the street has 3 of them.

Tie up your dogs watch your kids. I break for nobody. (Just the end of the court before I hit the field.)

I think I had approximately 1/250th of a mile on it before I floored it, My dealer was with me, so he can vouch for that. That very night I did three runs up to 140 m.p.h !

This weekend I officially hit the rev limiter, got to what looked like 145 m.p.h (It's supposed to be governed at 143 m.p.h) and the car just stopped gaining.

In accordance with the owners manual my vehicle has seen 0-145 m.p.h and 0-6000 rpm's and everything in between.

Spank her a little! She likes it!

"Exactly"!! I did a burnout in the dealer parking lot. It had 2 miles on it. Have 5,500 on it now, running very strong!

Took her to redline 3 times the morning after bringing her home - more than I did my previous car in 4 years (96GT)
