Smile How long does the NEW CAR SMELL last?

Just wondering how long the New Car smell lasts??? Would 1 year be about correct? Or 2 years?

My Mustang will arrive this week and I was wondering how long I can expect that new car smell...I have the leather also....

Thank you for your input...Just trying to kill time and want to know what to expect....

I'm right there with you. I love the new car smell and would like it to stick around as long as possible. What are you planning to do to keep the smell going?

One thing I'll try to do is keep the vents running to keep the "mildewy" smell out of the car that comes from leaving the "recirculation" setting on.

Actually thats the smell of curing plastics and adhesives. I think I saw somewhere that long term exposure causes cancer. But hey,as long as everybody`s happy.

Thanks 2005sonicgt...I am glad it lasts that long...
tsaints1115...I seen something like that and know that smell is most likely not healthy...But, since this is my first new car...I hope a little smell would not hurt...I hope anyway...

Going on 9 months, still smells like new.

Big key is to always leave the windows up and like Sniper said, run the AC (or vent) on recirculation.

The Toyota new car smell makes me want to puke. I had it happen several times while sitting in friends' Toyotas. It's the blue Ford blood in my body... It requires the presence of a V8 engine and a RWD drivetrain or else I start throwing up

I'm sure that the cabin air filter will help keep out the outside smells and preserve the interior a little better as well...

I found an air fresherner spray bottle thing at Autozone that is classified as 'new car smell' - I love it. I have had people comment that the car still smelled new after using it so it works

Seems to really start to fade after a year. I'd say 1 1/2 years without smoking, eating or drinking in the car.

Going on my third year of ownership and every so often, if the cars been sitting in the heat, I still get a hint of the "new car smell". But it's basically gone. Don't trasnsport good pizza home in it or you get the "fresh pizza" scent for a week. I even put it in the trunk to avoid smelling up the car without luck. Kinda dig the fresh pizza scent though. Much better than the McDonald french fry stink that will last a couple of days if you order fast food on the go.

Check the "Climate Controls" section of your manual. In there you should find Operating Tip #2:

"To reduce humidity build up inside the vehicle do not drive with the airflow selector in the O (OFF) postition or with the recirculated air engaged."

If the car has leather interior, try Zaino's Z10 Leather-in-a-Bottle. It is strong at first, but wears away to the fresh new smell of leather in a day or so.

I'm less than 2 months from having my '05 for 2 years. I had someone tell me TODAY that it still has that new car smell. Don't know what I'm doing to really preserve it, but it smells good! No food, no smoking, no windows cracked, always have fresh air coming in. ALWAYS use a sun shield when parked. Leather interior, cleaned w/ Maguires every once in a while.
