I can't use my iPod in mt GT with the shaker 500 unless I buy some FM transmitter and then tune to a specific radio station. Even then, the quality is going to be crappy. There has to be a better way.

I believe it stands for auxiliary port. It’s what the Ipod (any mp3 player) most likely needs to be connected to.

isnt it illegal to have headphones in both ears while driving? in california its illegal or so they say in the drivers handbook (taking the permit test 2morro! )

Yes, well here in TN it is also illegal to drive with FlipFlops or bare foot. But what they don't know won't hurt them. As long as it doesn't interfear with your driving abilities I don't see a problem.

I have a FM thingy that plugs in line with the antenna on my truck, no mustang for me yet. It has RCA plugs so I just had to get an RCA to 1/8" jack adapter to plug into my IPOD. Works great, you don't have to worry about reception, and the sound quality I believe is better than a wireless one. I do not complain about the quality, although I am sure there is a difference since it is still FM.

I have my ipod mounted in my 03 GT. I will attach pictures when i get back. There are 2 or 3 different manufacturers of FM modulators. The BEST ones are the ones that do not rely on a power source connected to the car. In other words, The best set up is to get the set up that relies on the ipods battery. If you don't feel that 8 hours is enough battery time, then there are external battery adapters that double the playtime of your ipod. The reason you don't want to rely on the cars battery is you get interference from the alternator, auxillary power point (if you have your cellphone charging or a radar plugged in to your cig lighter) and this is the problem with interference. I have 2 methods for iPod listening in a motor vehicle (not '05 specific, since I don't yet have one).

1) FM transmitter - many other people have mentioned this already. The sound quality is diminished, and in heavily populated radio areas (major metropolitan areas) there is a lot of interference. Plus, changing songs, etc, must be performed via the physical iPod. -- This is used in the '66 Stang (although I prefer to use the MP3 CD changer), and in the Durango before I purchase #2 below.

2) Alpine KCA-420i + Alpine headunit. The iPod is charged from the vehicle's electrical system (not enough to actually FULLY charge it, but it won't rundown while using it), and it's a direct line-in input from the iPod's dock connector into the stereo. It sounds incredible! The iPod is usually placed in the glovebox or somewhere similar. My complaint is that the headunits really aren't setup for looking through thousands of songs. The controls are not very intuitive, especially if you are used to the iPod's simplicity. -- This is the method used in our Durango.

I've heard that the next generation Alpine head unit will be an improvement, and it's due out in the next few months. It looks like there are going to be lots and lots of good options in the next year or so. BMW is equipping some cars with an iPod dock in the glove box already, so it won't be long before everyone is doing it.

I have installed an Alpine IVA-D300 system with the Ipod upgrade. It's a great system.

Ohhh Shuda, man that Alpine system looks good. What was the cost and where did you get it? If this skipping doesn't quit...I might have to switch audio systems.

my brother has an ipod and listens to it through FM transmitter and the quiality if fine. No cracking sounds or anything like that

yeah well I live in the middle of DC, and there is soooooo much interference around here, I have to constantly switch. I REALLY wish they would have opened the AUX port up so you could actually easily use it.

with all it came out to about $2500

I can also up grade a GPS system for 800 to 1000 more.
