1st make sure the disc does NOT have a glued on label, just mark the CD with a sharpie. The label can peel in the CD player and really screw it up.
2nd, take the MP3 CD out and make sure the readable side is clean and smudge free. If you have a 6 disc, put it in a different slot, if not trey re-inserting it.
I made a trip to FL from IL in a 500 with a 6-disc. Had 6 MP3's CD's and mega hours of music. Love the new technology!
Make sure you have the B Series model. Hold 3 and 6 down until it runs the self test. At the end of the test it will show your serial #. If it ends with a B than you have the right system. If you don't....what are you doing....head to the dealer. No more skipping or anything.

Do you have to close the entire CD or just close the session after burning MP3's as data?

You will have to finalize the CD is order for it to work in after market player if you only finalize the session it can only play of your PC. I have the "A" Shaker 500 and also had problems with MP3's. I switched to blank Maxell Music CD and burn my CD at 8x speed and haven't had any problems since.
Saw on some other forum how the Shaker unit is real picky on the quality of the CD you use.
I have been using Music Match Jukebox with TDK CD-R's for computer data and haven't had any trouble, even with the A code shaker. If you load the cd songs and then go to the internet you can load the ID tags and other stuff. This will then show up on the Shaker with the Artist and song title. Been getting about 180 song on each CD. I ran out of favorite songs before running out of CD slots.
I was using the Sony CD's but they stunk.
