homemade aluminum engine emblems

I was talking to KC the other day and I mentioned this product that I stumbled upon while ignoring my work duties. He seemed kind of interested in it so I thought I would share it with everyone.
It is called alumajet and it is thin, adhesive backed sheets of aluminum that can be run thru most home inkjet printers. I thought it might be worth playing around with so I called and ordered a sample pack which was like $30 or so and decided to see if it would be suitable for engine labels. The stuff takes ink really well and can be cut with scissors. I made these up about one month ago and so far no peeling or other non desirable effects.
Who knows how long the stuff will hold up but then again who cares as I can just go print off a new set.

I thought the stuff was really cool so here it is.

Note- you cannot order your first order over the internet, you must call them.

Thanks Future. Badsnke, I actually just copied some label images from places like mustangs unlimited and edited them in mspaint and copied them to msoffice so I could resize them. It only took a few hours. If you like any of the ones I did just pm me and I'll email you the files.

Cool. I just went to a local sign maker and had them make some out of aluminum-look vinyl. They have held up very well, with no peeling or discoloration, and they were only $10 a pair. I designed them on my computer, based on the fender emblem of a 427 Cobra.

Hey Bob, great idea. I created a similar design (no 3V though) on my computer, but I only put it on paper, and then covered it with packing tape. Now, the heat had made the paper curl and I didn't know how to make a sign out of metal. Now I think I have the solution. To print on this Alumajet, do you have to use a printer that has a rear feed, and not one that has to curl the paper? I just want to make sure I can do it correclty and not waste any on the aluminum. Any help you can lend is great. Thanks much.

EDIT: I was just on their site, and had a few more questions for you? Which finish did you use, the brushed aluminum, and which thickness too. Thanks again.

Great idea and I am bumping this for 05FordGT and others to find it. Great way to personalize your car with VIN# or anything else you want.

What printer and ink are you using? And how did you attach it to the car?

I just ordered the sample pack of Alumajet. Should be here in 2 days. To answer your question, any straight-pass printer will work, with regular ink. The back of the sample pack has adhesive for it to stick. Can't wait to get it on my car for Saturday's show.

Hey bc317,

I saw your car at the Packey Webb show about a week ago. Your car looks good man. Those emblems you made really look professional. I'm going to have to order some of that stuff myself. I'll PM you my email if you could shoot me the files for them that would be awesome. How are they holding up? Thanks.

Hey Bob, I got your email with the files. Thanks a bunch. I am still futzing with my computer to get it to create my logo, to no avail. Horizons called me 1st thing Monday AM, and I got my order in for the Alumajet trial pack. Should get it tomorrow, or Thursday. Then I'll have to find a rear-feed printer, and get them printed off ASAP! I can't wait to get these done. Thanks again for all your help.
