What is the real towing capacity of a 2005 GT 5-speed? Dealer told me Ford doesn't recommend towing. Well, I've got a boat/motor/trailer to pull, so that's a problem.
Any hitches out there on the market yet?

Ford says that it is capable of towing and that the max gross trailer weight is 1,000 lbs and max trailer tongue load is 100 lbs.
They do say that a towing package is not available (as of that printing) from Ford.

My 93 has a tow hitch from the previous owner. I've always heard it's extremely rough on the drivetrain which is why it's not recommended. But with the increase in torque and Hp, I'm not sure if this still holds true

i remember reading on here somewhere, something about them testing the stang in the worst of conditions, ie towing something heavy up a hill in the heat. that shows that they at least considered the possibility of someone towing something with this car.

Maybe something small, but not a boat or trailer.

trailers on cars is extremely hard on the drivetrain and understurcture, the stang isnt so bad where it has a true frame, unlike a toyota unibody, but still, it wasnt made for towing. A truck tows things, a cars stows people.IMO

Don't tell me only trucks tow. That's crap. Toys have to be towed. I'm not talking an Airstream here.
So, who makes a hitch for the 05 GT? That was my other question.

While the mustang has the engine to tow quite a bit, the suspension and chassis lack the ability to do that well.
I would not risk damaging a car to tow over the reccomended limit, that's just me.

I've seen people towing utility trailers behind some Fox bodies, even saw one pulling a boat.
Makes me cringe when I see it.
I would never put my pony through it. Bought a beat up old truck for pullin and haulin...
To each his own though... just remind me not to buy a used car from you.
