I don't think it would be that easy to roast the mach 1s. Those seem pretty equal. 32 valve V8...it has more hp too.

I'm personally most excited about the Mach 1 vs. 05 GT matchup.
Advantage for the 05
- more low end torque
- better suspension setup
Advantage for the Mach 1
- lighter
- higher *peak* hp/tq
Only thing I'm wondering is if the 05 GT needs to shift into 4th gear just before the 1/4 mile. I hope not or that will reduce times.

Don't read this the wrong way- I understand where people are coming from in this post: people in an 05 may lose a race they expected to win.
However, some of the cars here have been labeled as unbeatable by the 05 because of the aftermarket mods. This is like comparing apples and oranges. Granted, the aftermarket isn't widely available for the 05 yet, but we're making comparisons that aren't fair here.
In otherwords, if I got to the track I'm not going to be afraid to take on some of these cars. If I put up a fight in a stock 05 compared to a car with a bunch of aftermarket parts, I'll consider it a good race. If you're obsessed with winning, either race stock vs. stock or mods vs. mods.

Dan,
with the taller tires, the gearing of the '05 is the same as the '04 (essentially)
I doubt you will need 4th in the 1/4

The number one car I'm looking forward to owning is.....
Seriously some of you guys non-existent cars are legends in your own minds. Be careful which 350Z you rev on as the Track edition will own you, SS camaros too, not because of the stock difference but because most of us that are still alive have modded thier cars like nobodys business.

My first target .... YOU! The first smug '05 GT owner that gets up next to my 10-year old '95 and tries to race is going to give me entertainment to last for awhile...
It's gonna be hard to wait for the new Cobra, with all these pretty new GT's on the road. I don't regret cancelling my order though, it's the right thing to do (for me). My dealer left my order just the way I set it up, though, so as soon as it arrives I'm going to go drool over it for awhile. And test drive a C6 for fun while I'm at it, the Ford dealer is also a Chevy dealer .

You guys are dreaming! This 05 GT has 300HP , not 400HP!!
An STI? A Corvette? A Camaro? What? Come on now people! You are getting an excellent car, but it is NOT packing that much HP... 300 is great, but nothing spectacular.
The Mach 1 should probably smoke the GT..The Mach 1 is underrated, and this is documented..It simply has more power and is a lighter car. Don't think you can beat it...
You do have a car that rides better, is much more refined in every way possible, and looks a billion times better. But it is NOT faster!

25K for a barebones GT...and you will have the fastest car on the road...NOT!!!
If ya wanna keep up with the big boys, do some serious mods. If not, be glad that you can beat most of the cars on the road, since most people drive cars that have less than 250hp.
Just don't try racing me on my V-max. 10 sec 1/4 mile. That will beat ANY of the cars that have been talked about. In fact, I smoked a C5 on my way out of town a while back...and I had a passenger on back, pulled a nice, long wheelie. B)

(Original Tire Diameter / New Tire Diameter) X Original Axle Ratio = Effective Axle Ratio
(25.68"(Mach 1) / 27.17"(05 GT)) X 3.55 Original Axle Ratio = 3.35 Effective Axle Ratio
Given the same HP/Tq numbers and same weight. The tire diameter will make the difference.
Who knows what the (mustang) GT numbers will put out though. I'm sure we'll see a GT/Mach 1 comparison in MM&FF as soon as they get their hands on one.

I predict the Mach and 05 GT will be very close performance wise. Besides, it's not like I'm gonna go out lookin for 05s to race anyway. I'd rather bury 350z, BMW, Rice, whatever other import comes my way.
