Hit list.......

I hate to write this....but I suspect the 2005 GT will be a 13.7X 1/4mile car at its best. It weighs 3470lbs dry with 300HP(not rear wheel hp). The rumors of being under-rated are not from Ford but website posters wishing it to be true as with the Mach I engine. Cite one reference from Ford indicating the engine is under-rated. The interview posted on this site with the head engineer related very little regarding the powerplant which appears strange if performance were to be the selling point. From the little we know of the 3V, it does not make more HP than the Mach I 4V. Compare truck engine heads in the 3V vs. Cobra heads in the 4V Mach engine.
In fact, one of the test drivers who posted here a few weeks ago and who owns a performance car indicates it is a quick car but not an enormously fast car as with the 03-04 Mach I. Most of the other drivers who have posted do not own fast vehicles. Performance is relative to what is one accustomed to when relating an experience.
In fact the 2004 GTO has a better weight to horsepower ratio at 3774lbs dry with 350HP than the 2005 GT. I believe it is the GT's large first gear, in the manual trans, and the 3.55 rear axle which help the 1/4 mile time compared to the GTO(also the GTO's IRS is difficult to launch properly). The 03-04 Mach I should easily handle an 2005 GT. Also, computer control is prevalent on the 2005 Mustang. You will need an aftermarket chip to ensure mods do not cause negative effects in other areas.
Well, auto mag test come out in a few more weeks. We will all get to drive one to compare with our current rides. I am registered for the Ford event in November and will see how it compares to my 5.0L. Which, by the way, is a fast car thanks to the factory developed performance packages.

This is comedy. I think you need to list the cars you have owned in the past, I get the feeling several dreamers here are stepping up from the civic or grand am and don't know what real head to head will be in street situations. Many of the cars listed here have been around long enough to benefit from heavy modding ... you think you're gonna roll of the dealer lot and eat some of these, you will be embarrassed.

you guys are right, don't street race(except maybe some stoplight to stoplight fun) and watch out what you run, 'cause you never know how much money someone has poured into their rice rocket just to get it into the low 12's, high 13's. Especially those pesky front-drivers!! I mean, after all, it's traction and the ability to put down all of your power that gets the win and those fwd cars have so much traction...man!! i'm just sooo jealous!! Like i said before, pop on a set of drag radials and head to the track, you ain't gotta tell them you've hopped it up a little, just tell the guys in the tower not to display your times. Go on one of the test and tune nites or if you're lucky, a street car nite and see just what the old pony is capable of!!

And you add all those options, more weight, you put on 18's, more power will be needed to the ground. If you want to play with most of the cars Felix C has a point, you'll still need mods. But.....the big difference is that I would rather have an 05 GT with a couple of mods as a daily driver then a 4 cyl engine wired out for everything it's worth. Oh yeah, and the Mustang just looks better, has heritage, and a wider range of people to talk to about cars.
Also, I could just slap a supercharger on my current GT and that would put me right in the mix.

My friend's got a 2005 Toyota Matrix that he thinks is absolutely awesome. I think it's a small minivan. He's even got a sticker on the rear windshield that says "You Just Got Beat by a Wagon". I think he has it coming to him.
