I think given the right tweaking those hips could look good on the '05.
I think they work well on the new *ahem* Charger but that's not a Charger.. this is:

If it wasn't called a Charger, it would be a neat car.

The hips would look nice, I was actually thinking the samething the otherday when i was looking at the new charger thread in general vechile discussion. They look good on my '66 so they'd probably look good on the 05. It would fix the one complain that my gf has with the 05, which is that it looks too boxy.
Chazcron did a chop of one of the original side-view pics of the Mustang (pre-production) with hips. It got real Aston-Martin, real fast. I like it, but it started looking too much like a DB9 and not enough like a Mustang.

Last pic on the first page is where it really starts getting A-M ... hips, flares, lowered and the rear end truncated.
Be sure to check out page 2 for the "OMG wtf was he thinking renders" (think: 2005 'Stang crossbred with Chevy HHR, for example
and page 3 for the Mustang Probe!

I have said it before, and I will say it again, I am seriously concerned that the new Charger is going to steal serious Law Enforcement sales from the Crown Vic (similar price, new chassis, much more powerful V8). And while I may not like the re-use of the Charger name, or the exterior styling, the interior is very fresh and clean, and no matter what people say, the current "HAS THAT THING GOT A HEMI?" :bang:
craze is going to make it sell.
By the way Blackhat, great picture.

I agree 100% the hips would be a great addition to the '05. That and making the back end smaller would make the car almost perfect visually.
Also, while the new dodge is a good looking car, it's no where near being a Charger.

Hey Stoic21,
Back to the hips (without comments regarding the Charger, GTO or whatever).
I think the hips would be a definite plus for the '05, especially the Vert. Seems to me the "hip" and "retro" go hand-in-hand (i.e., the '64).

It's a Charger in name only. It's great if you wanna big family 4door car. But not if you wanna relive your childhood with a car named a Charger. I think if they were going to bring back the Charger then they should have done it right. But if what they really wanted to push was another family sedan then they should have called it something else.
I mean if they suddenly changed the Mustang & put the Mustang name badge on the Freestyle or Contur or something would it make it a Mustang? No, so IMO just because you produce it & slap the name on it doen't make it so.
Because when I first heard they were coming back out with the charger & I was pretty happy. I couldn't wait to see it & when I saw the concept pictures, the 1st thing I said is "That's not a Charger!" And it's really NOT a Charger. Like I said I think that they should have either did the Charger right or left the name alone & called it something else.
JMO. Sorry for the long rant. Cheers all.

Stoic,
I agree - one of the major design cues missed was the hips - some of the preliminary drawings for the concept showed these and I thought they were great. There was also a spy photo around of a concept or full size clay model that had them as well. I really missed them on the actual production version. Maybe a future styling update? I'm planning on getting an '06 but if they do put hips on its going to be very tempting.
To the others - a recent car mag in my barber's lobby referred to the new Charger as "the sedan version of the Magnum dealers have be clamoring for..."
...FOUR doors?

I think the next generation Mustang will probably have the hips

and a more carved out \______ pillar scoop like on the 67 gt model,
instead of the \_____ shape now.
We'd have one slick(-er) car.

I like Chaz's original a bit better...
And I have to say, a subtle flare would not look bad on the 05. As for than Magnum Sedan that Dodge is calling a charger, my response is something along the lines of ho hum....
