When emissions rolled around I had to take of my CAI and before putting it back on I cleaned the filter so I let it sit over night with a towel in the arm so that dust wouldn't get in, the next morning I had school and wasn't thinking at all and turned the car on with the towel still in there instead of the filter. I know it was absolutely stupid! Ever since then the car has been idling high on the first start of the day, I was thinking maybe doing that clogged something up? Can any one point me to what it might be so I can fix/ replace it?

 

Does the idle settle down to between 500 and 700 rpm after you put the car in gear? If so, I would say that you are ok because mine does the same thing with the first start of the day. When I put the car in gear, the idle goes to where it should and no issues. Probably wouldn't hurt to remove your MAF sensor to make sure you don't have any debris on it.

 

Yea that's exactly what it does, it goes straight back to normal when put in gear. If the MAF sensor is dirty if there any special cleaning method I should use?

 

Don't most cars idle higher at the first start up , especially in the morning when it's been cold all night , to allow all the sensors to warm up ? Mine does. Here's a link to the info you need to clean the TB and MAF sensor.

High idle on first start is programmed into the open loop tune on your car. Not to warm the sensors. More of the old school term "choke". If it were to idle around 500-700 on a cold start the car would most likely die when put into gear.

 

I didnt know that, thanks for the info! So 1700-1800 rpms on first start isn't bad?
